Animals; Most Players Don't Know

Postby rklenseth » Wed Oct 15, 2003 12:51 pm

I noticed in game that most animals are being slaughtered because many players believe that they will attack and kill their characters. Very few player seem to know that animals have been changed and some will not attack and there aren't any that will kill you in one hit anymore.

Also, very few player know that once you wipe out all the animals then they will no longer respawn. Some believe that they keep respawning no matter. It is true that once you kill all the animals in a given area then the animals are dead for good unless some happen to migrate from other locations, right? If so then it would be a good idea to put an announcement on the Character Page, informing players of the changes.

Remember there are 500 players in the game and only a good 100 actually ever look at the board so ver few of the players know this if they didn't read the board.

I also see an OOC problem here where players just have their characters to assume that the animals will kill them if they don't kill them first.

In an arguement about animals in game from an OOC stand point a character said this to my character. I think she makes a really good point;

627-3: a woman in her thirties says to you: "ooc: she has experienced watching animals kill..but tell me this since you are so against killing them...3 goats come to town...you see a man attacked by "a" goat....how do you know when you shoot them you are killing the goat that attacked? You dont...it just says 3 goats and you kill them all to get the one."

I think maybe animals should be split up as individuals so if one goat happens to attack then you can pick that goat out and kill it and not the others. That way animals have a chance for survival and when one goat attacks people won't be adamant about slaughtering them all and just killing the aggressive animals. Just an idea.

And maybe there should be dynamic naming for animals too. That way people could name animals and if characters in gam ever decide to 'own' an animal they will be able to pick out their animal from the others. Again, just some thoughts that probably belong on the suggestion forum. :D

Hehehe. Maybe there should also come a possibilty to ride horses. Would be fun. Allthough most horses on the new island (Kirinn, etc) are dead now.

I've always thought it was nuts to kill off animals before they hurt you. I mean, one character of mine is pretty ticked off because he's up in the mountains and this horse just keeps attacking him when he's just making tools! But anyway, besides that, I think that killing animals is crazy.

Err, why on earth did you revive a topic from 2003? I'm sure there are more recent topics that could house your comment.

But I was surprised on how OOC influenced they were in those days - even before I started. If your char is attacked by animals, he ain't going to think fancy ideas about conservation. He may not know where animals come from, may think they are a curse to be exterminated, etc.

But bear in mind that back when animals were implemented, even a rabbit could deal significant damage and some animals were killing with a single bite. Wasn't there but I've read notes and heard from someone who was.

Ah, another long forgotten GD topic is exhumed from the dusty archives... the trail of inconsequential chatter sprinkes merrily outwards like drool from the mouth of an incontinent vegetable... somewhere, in the distance, and owl hoots... *v* woo woo wa-woo!
