Organized Crime and Corruption

Postby rklenseth » Thu Mar 18, 2004 8:41 pm

I haven't much of this in game except perhaps in the Alexian Empire. It either seems you are a bad guy or a good guy and there is no in between.

I have been thinking about this but my next few characters will most likely be corrupt and greedy individuals that will work with the system or under the radar. I don't think this is done much. As I said, I have seen it only in the Alexian Empire but not in any of the other places. Perhaps, the Drojf/Seatown/Krif area would have some but none that my characters have seen directly or have been a part of.

What are other people's thoughts on this?

Unless you were a part of it but organize crimes just flaunts itself at the law so people know. They just make sure to hide all of the evidence. So like the Mafia. Everyone knows about it and they do their work properly. Most of the times that is..

The trouble is that most places don't have that sort of law enforcement. Everywhere, even Quill, will convict if it's pretty obvious you're doing something wrong. The communities are too small to give rise to a legal system with sufficient bureaucracy that someone would be aquitted on a technicality or lack of evidence. If you flaunt it, you get punished.

Unless ofcourse the organisation in question is tipping the government off in some way, for instance an organisation wants to get one over on a business in a town, the business thinks its protected by the towns government when in fact the organisation plotting against the business has given the government something they want. So the government wont convict. Thats basicly how Al Capone did it.

Just when I think you're a worthless troglodyte, you come out with something that sounds intelligent. Heh.

But yeah...reminds me a bit of Karnon Forest a few years back...semi-governmental factions and businesses kind of trying to get a one-up on each other.

Course, everything reminds me of Karnon Forest. Including orange soda.

I have a few chars who work just a little beyond the law, and I've considered making a few of my governmental-types slowly give in to the corruption of their power

Agreed.

I've yet to see it done properly, but the potential is there. If done properly, it would be awfull and cool all at once.(With keeping in mind this is just a game)

I've got one character who's on the steady slide towards crime. He's got his eye on a boat for now that he thinks he may be able to steal... he's just working out his options - he'd definetly be open to a life just outside the law...

I've tried that before and failed, both times, not that I was really trying with either.

...I've had a few criminal chars as does everyone, but those are petty theives and treasure hunters, found in mts and the vacant parts of the world, many have died away.

...None of my char's would be considered part of an organized crime syndicate, tho the GVT/Law types do usually bend the rules and abuse them. They are too indulged in what they are doing, to change that.

Which is why I pointed out the Alexian Empire. There are also other corrupt groups within the Empire other than the Imperial Guard.

Three Groups of Imperial Guards:
1. Those that Supported General Gartaf and Emperor Hawethorne. Most of them are dead as well as the two they were loyal to.
2. Those loyal to Vizier Parker. They had their losses but were never completely wiped out.
3. And the third I'll keep quiet for now but Nick knows what I am talking about.
