Cantr II needs to be more financially stable. Donations by players have slowed way down. On this board so far, we have 36 registered users. If half of them were to donate $5 a month, we would have more than enough for our current provider. If half of our overall active players would donate $1 each per month, we would be similarly stable. Of course, Cantr is committed to being a free game. But that does not mean that it does not cost some money to run, and the money must come from somewhere. I encourage anyone who can to donate, even if it is a very small amount. The link is located on the bottom of the player's page.

My main point, was that perhaps more players can help than they thought. "Can I donate $2?" is a good question to ask.

I wonder, do most players have a check / credit card, or a Paypal account?

I don't have a credit card or a savings account or any kind of bank account or any of the items that go with it. I deal in cash, or get my parents to do it for me, and pay them in cash.

A lot of our players might be in a similar situation. It's always surprised me how many players are under 18 - and a minor wouldn't have access to a credit card or checking account.

That's not necessarily true. A lot of people I knew in high school had a Visa check card. It is true, that their parents would have also signed for their account. But I think a lot of people have Visa cards, since they are also check cards, and not just credit cards.

Well, in my SIM group, we have a group PO Box, where a trusted member of the staff picks up any checks/money orders/cash that is sent, deposits it and then sends it as a whole each month or week or whatever to the game itself. We could do something of that nature.

Yes. Postal mail is always an option for people who do not want to use a credit card.

Plus another thing to consider is that the paypal thing costs money to use. I think Jos said at one time that on some small donations the cost of moving the donation was 30-40% of the donation. Perssonally the donations I've made have been in the form of money orders, at least I know that some 3rd party was getting a cut of it.

Donating by post would be a lot prefferable than by any kind of card, for me at least.

What do you mean? The cost of postage, and the cost of a money order? (Or just some cash inside several layers of paper.)

There may be fees for converting a foreign check or money order to cash. I got the impression that paying in American money was very expensive unless done via PayPal.
