Animal Numbers

Postby Chris » Sat Mar 01, 2008 4:56 am

What's with the sudden increases in animal populations? I have noticed on more than one occasion a species gain 10 or 15 in a day, when typical migration might be 1 or 2. If it happens with something like rabbits, it's no big deal. But when lions or tigers or bears go from 5 to 20, it can have a big impact on a town.

If a town has 6 or so connections and an animal or two arrives from each surrounding location, that would account for quite an increase. Also there are no more animals hiding on the roads so they all must go somewhere.

What Seko said, plus there could be other complicating factors. If you want, PM me details and I'll look into it.

The particular animal species dropped to a manageable level. I guess the overcrowding trigger kicked in. Does this mean that in some areas, gangs of animals are wandering from town to town because overpopulation forces them to keep moving?

I hope one of my characters encounters these bands of potentially roving animals. Poor guy going to starve, if that last single goat leaves, and if not, I know my actions will cause the last animal to die there anyway. :)

It's actually not possible to migrate to another overcrowded area, so if an overcrowded area is surrounded by overcrowded areas, all the animals are stuck there until the outlying areas clear out some.

I think I know where your charrie is. Not sure if it'll ever be possible to keep animals on that island.

Hmm, sounds like a certain mountain city on a certain 5 city island on the far point. We need more animals there, last goatleft. :(
Please, mountain animals to save us

If overcrowded animals can't migrate, then those over the limit should die.

Without breaking the CRB, that certain 5-city island with mountains on one end does have a good food production system in place, it is just a matter of the leaders or someone helping certain others distribute it properly. There is a way in-game to get enough food for everyone. check the map and ask around. :)
