Janakowsky is probl'y polish or Slavic. Most names ending in "sky" or "ski" are from that region of europe

my two cents.

What I don't care for, are names of famous RL people. Show a little imagination, don't just rip a name out of the newspaper. It doesn't even have to be the 'most original name in Cantr'. As long as it isn't too bland like John Smith or Jane Jones.

Most of the names I've run into are very good. The ones I really don't like, are the excessively long ones that are designed solely to be outrageous. Our favorite whipping boy on the Forums has a couple of them.

I greatly agree here. I dispise seeing names of real life people, fictional characters from books/television/etc, and what'not. THere's no role play to that. I'd rather see a "Adam Mint" (One of my characters, through of from looking at a Business Card and a container of mints...) than see a "Jack O'Neil" (Stargate SG-1 Main Character) or "Drizzt Do'Urden" (Spelt that right? Mani character in R. A. Salvatores' Forgotten Realms books)

Yeah, I don't like the celebrity names...fictional ones, like from fantasy books and so on can be allright, but it never feels funny to stumble upon Elvis Presley on the road to Doryiskom...

My first few chars were named after Enlightenment Figures, it was the only way to remember their names, lol. One of em is in the Empire, and the other in K/D/S region. The rest were mostly variants of names I found off the paper, and major variants of my irl friend's names, but have only had 2 friends to play this, one quit already *kicks them*
All my names sound pretty much 'normal' but I tempoarily named someone something that humored me. They aren't in the best social shape.

I choose ancient names and put them together myself, one I named by warping the living hell out of guitarist Luca Turilli's name, others are Maqari, and one I got from a book on my desk and my sister's screen name.

I do the same thing. Just look around the desk for things, use their names, or a word on them, to make a person. Like "Stylo Pegas" - He's dead, so I can talk about em. I got his name by looking at a spiral bound book (Spiral sounds like Stylo) and the name of a book (Pegasus to Pegas). Only three names I didn't make up like that, and those would be my three main characters - Eechii Omnisheek being one of them.

I think characters should be named AFTER they are created, and the names should reflect the local cultures.

IRL, not many Johns in Saudi Arabia, nor many Abduls in Russia

A couple decide to try and track down the twins they adopted out at birth 20 years ago. After many months they get letters from both the twins. Juan was adopted out to a couple in Mexico, and includes a photo of himself with his letter.

Amal ended up with a couple in Egypt, also sent a letter but no photo. The woman was really happy to hear from the twins - happy that they are healthy and have found families that love them. But before too long she's crying.

"What's wrong?" her husband asks her. "It's just that Juan sent a photo but Amal didn't" she replied. "I don't see what the problem is," he says "They're identical twins. If you've seen Juan you've seen Amal."

Oh ho ho ho...Shut up.

Richard "Dick" Cockly is a favorite...

Yeah and that would also make it possible for last names change if the chars get married or such.
