You could also drive them away. I did that to someone who had gathered materials for my wedding gift (although I didn't know that IC). Then again I imagined that she may have cursed the marriage by predicting it would be happy. You know wishing good luck aloud makes the spirits jealous and cause accidents.

Well all I have to say is that my charies dont know that :P they dont know about all these goverments and what not all they know is their spawn place and the 3 or four places theyve been were their was only a local goverment. Also Chris its okay for multi-charries to come up with the same idea. They only plan to rule not in the same wa,shape or form and they havent even met so how could they work together?

As long as the characters are acting separately, that's fine.

As a tangent, I would say that for all your characters to be thinking about world domination sells short the possibilities of the game. There are many games that focus solely on world domination and give you better tools to achieve it. Cantr has so many other roads you could take: trader, ordinary town citizen, pirate, founder of a religion, explorer, seducer, shop keeper, sea salvager, guard, and so on.

For my own characters, I don't set out with any fixed idea of what I want them to be. I have them take a look at their different circumstances and opportunities and skills and pick a role that provides a good fit for them. Two of them have traveled a lot; others have never left their spawn town. A couple are in leadership positions; others are worker bees. In all cases, my characters' development depends a lot on the other characters around them. They watch, listen, talk, read, work, and then have ideas based on those personal and social experiences.

There's so much talk about "taking over"!

Is this a healthy trend? I mean..does violence and take-overs and pirates detract from the value of the game? Is it okay to just kill elderly characters? As a player I sometimes feel reluctant to kill active characters, assuming they don't annoy my characters. Hell, I still do though

i hate killing active charries, and as such always give people an out, be it servitite or working for forgivness. EXPECIALLY when im the aggressor. Unless its one of my PCs, because he would never ever spare quarter, unless it is more amusing to terrify the person than kill him.

One time I forced a person to attack me. forced. he threw a steel sabre to him and demanded that he strike him, saying that if he landed a hit he would forgive the the guy. the charrie was so terrified he had no idea what to do, but you would be terrified too if a PC wielding a battleaxe that can cleave a man in half in one hit is screaming at you to attack him... (after hitting me, he threw the sword on the ground and ran across the boat to get away from me, he was such a good sport with everything i thoroughly enjoyed it.)

in the end, i let him go because he didn't mean to steal the boat, and now he is part of the group im in and is a loyal member.

Qualified human resources are always the worst issue for world domination plans. :?

You know, I once successfully built my own samurai Sparta (no joke, ninja spartans clan! but with a different name o.c.), attracted a dozen and half active and skilled charries, which ain't easy as each one would come from a different player and then, I proceeded to send lone scouts and teams everywhere to chart the region, always with careful plans, instructions, good equipment and lots of food and medicines.

Many just died a few locations away. Of sleep. One chomped by elephants.

Many other disappeared or got lost. :|

So in the future I may sit there and wonder if I'll ever dare to let them leave the home town. T'is dangerous out there for poor skilled warriors.

Sleep is probably the most dangerous killer for empire builders. Owning more then one town can be difficult, often the appointed town leader will just sleep in your absence and so will all it's residents. It seems that people who run a town independently will be more successful, but those who are appointed by a higher authority will often have little to no initiative of their own because they don't share your dream.

That is why the Empire of Lad is now dying, everybody sleeps.

I'm not so sure it'll be that easy anymore, there's some competition in the area.

FINALLY i've been waiting for a polish invasion since pirates slaughtered my PC on omeo.

and as for Lad, theres always been competition, though from an OOC standpoint it'll be sad to see it go when it eventually dies, as its always good to have a long standing power, even if it doesnt have much authority. Upstart powers tend to be powerful but die quickly...

Well, maybe a polish invasion would unite the english together, the DuMac Stone Silver D.I.G Imperial Order, probably won't happen lol
