Libertarians: teh GAME!!! (aka Mafia)

Postby frenchfisher » Mon Feb 04, 2008 12:32 am

((Please excuse my overpoliticalization, but I'm a wonk. Be warned: my God-style tends towards extreme sarcasm and absurd causes of death.))

We are in the lovely town of Socialdemocracitopia, America, a place full of vibrant welfare systems and wonderful education systems and federally-funded abortions. All the residents are kind, wonderful people, who like nothing more than paying exorbitant tax rates and hugging trees.

OR ARE THEY?!?!?!!!!!

You see, within the village lurks a malevolent force, just praying to demolish the social democracy the citizens hold dear. They are known as... the Libertarians!

Oh noes!

And so, the citizens now live in fear, that some day, they may be killed by the licentious libertarian legion!

If you need to know how to play, check out a tutorial here. Role descriptions have their common names taken from here.

Roles:
1 Ron Paul (similar to Mafia Godfather): Works for the Libertarians. Actually does the killing every night; if he's killed, this job is taken up by any remaining Libertarians. Rather loves the Gold Standard.
1 Ayn Rand (Mafia Roleblocker): Works for the Libertarians. Able to, ahem, "distract" players from fulfilling their roles certain nights. Into kinky rape fantasies.
1 Mike Gravel (Saulus/Vampire): A liberal, but subject to being deluded into libertarianism, such as the national sales tax. If the Libertarians target him during the night, he'll join their side.
1 Nancy Pelosi (Town Detective): Works for the town. Determines whether fellow citizens are toeing the properly liberal line or not. Certainly has never used Botox ever, of course.
1 Ted Kennedy (Town Doctor): Works for town. Can save other town members from dying by injecting them with liberal doctrine. It is not recommended you accompany him in his car over a bridge if he's been drinking.
1 Stephanie Herseth (Town Roleblocker): Works for the Town. "Distracts" players from fulfilling their roles. For example, choosing Ayn Rand will make it impossible for her to "distract" others. Sorry, the category of "attractive female politicians" is rather limited.
1 Joe Lieberman (Town Skitzo): Works for the town. Each night, targets a player; that player is either investigated (Pelosi), protected (Kennedy), roleblocked (Herseth), killed, or nothing happens. Has run under a party named after himself.
5 Random Democrats: Try to kill off the Libertarians/Mafia.

Roles may be added if more people join!

I'll give any more players 48 hours to join the game, or for people I thought showed some interest to opt out. Oh, and tell me if you have some other name you want to go by; as I'm not too active I don't know people very well ;)

lol iiinteresting.

I hope more people join! If there are, may I suggest the addition of a Traitor character for the Evil side and a Coroner for the Good side?

Also, can you explain how the Town Roleblocker will be more helpful than unhelpful towards the town? It would seem (given the numbers) that statistically, the town roleblocker would be more inclined to block a good power as opposed to an evil power. In addition, that would be an added advantage for the Evil side given that they have a Mafia roleblocker too.

Well, seeing as no liberals are reincarnated as libertarians, those might not be useful ;)

Also, the Stephanie Herseth will not have to use her powers every night. Once, however, she thinks she knows who's a Libertarian, her power might be quite mighty, as she could end up choosing Ron Paul night after night and essentially end the Libertarians' reign of terror for a few turns. Or, at the very least, she could avoid someone she suspects is Nancy Pelosi or Ted Kennedy.

However, if others agree with you, I could replace her with Joe Lieberman (aka Skitzo, along the lines of that site), who would pick someone during the night and randomly investigate them, heal them, kill them, or do nothing.

I'd like to join if it won't upset the numbers

As many as we can get :)

Right now I have the roles set for 9, so I'd assume I'll be doing some adjusting. (but don't let that stop you from joining!)

I'm ready. Can you post a time limit for sign ups so we can get started?

Hey! I read that. I'm just saying...it's been 48 hours. ;) Besides there is no rush....just thought things would go more smoother with a time limit.

Won't bother you anymore...do what you do. :P

Oh, whoops, I set this up on Sunday?! What was I thinking? Of course I wouldn't set it up on Super Tuesday :? Sorry if I sounded hostile; I welcome all criticism, though I do warn that I can out-critical anyone ;)

I've posted new distributions of roles and the player list. I'll start randomly assigning and PMing tonight :)

Though it may seem imbalanced, I hope the two "Good" players who might not be as useful as it is thought will contribute to the Mafia's well-being ;) Or perhaps I will be utterly wrong, and this game will end after two day turns.

12.

Everyone should have their PMs now :)

Alright, I normally play starting with a night phase, but I see most people here have started with a day one. So, for the next twenty four hours, I'm going to have "twilight"; you may speak and scope people out if you wish, but no one will be lynched. Stay gender-neutral when describing your actions/appearance. Mostly, though, I want to use the next twenty-four hours for clarifications/OOC discussion of rules (or time-limits)/convincing me that the game should obviously start in the daytime for some reason.

In any case... the sun is near the horizon in the peaceful little town of Socialdemocracitopia, and townspeople are milling about. Quaint, picturesque houses sit peacefully in the hills, and the government-subsidized transit system is busy operating completely empty routes. Who dares disturb the peace?
