Defense.

Postby Yo_Yo » Sat Jan 26, 2008 5:20 pm

I know that right now, more things to be added isn't needed in Cantr. But I honestly doubt it would be hard to program, and I can think of umpteen times in all my toons lives I could have used it.

I'm talking about giving people the actual ability to defend for someone while under attack. It'd be like this.

Player C is a possible threat. Player A likes player B. So Player A decides to become a human shield for Player B, and takes any blows for player B for a set period of time. You could even make it something like a project. Would finnaly make it so guards of important political people could do thier job's efficiently.

There might be some kinks to work out, but I don't see why this couldn't be implimented.

There was a discussion aobut this not too long ago I believe. I don't really mind the idea.

Pros:
Can better protect people
Opens jobs as bodyguards
YOu can feel safe if you have sleeping sickness
Cons:
If they go insane, then you are protecting someone that is killling everyone still
might increase lag
When you hope for something, you often believe in something. When you believe in something, you often have pride in it. Being proud often leads to a hating of some group.
As you can see, the Jedi are hypocrites.

I kind of agree. Of course, if possible, there should be a chance to get past a bodygaurd. But, it would cut down on crime even more. Which sometimes is the only thing that make some characters interesting.

It should also be a project, so you don't have 10 characters setting themselves up as bodyguards forever. And it should be limited to one bodyguard.. and optional to the person being guarded. And, 50% chance for the attacker to hit either target.

Not 50%, but proportional to the attacker's fighting skill (not strength).

I'm always in shock when people like my ideas....
The only other idea i've brought up that people liked and was introduced was the bone shield.

Yay for Yo_Yo :0

Why is it that when I suggest something, everybody hates it but when someone else suggests it, it's suddenly great? I'm not bitter, I would like to see this implemented, no matter who suggested it, but to be realistic, ProgD doesn't have enough manpower to code something of this magnitude.

I really like this idea too. As mentioned earlier, I agree that not only would it open up the bodyguard career path, but it would help current officers protect townspeople better. e.g. in the case of organized group attacks. People can protect the sleepers while trying to drag them into safety.

Would this suggestion also include multiple defense for a single person? Say, for a King - I think there should be a limited number of people to guard another person. I would suggest maybe 3 max. More than 3 might actually be inefficient for defense.

Why not also take into consideration strength? If the attacker is strong, the attack should possibly penetrate the "human shield".

Also, if bodyguarding would be made into a project, would there be a skill associated with it? Would being a guard for a long time increase fighting skill?

For once, I have almost nothing to say about this suggestion, except that I support it, despite having been sceptical when looking at the title, and that strength should not affect the attacker's chance to hit the protected person (as to get past a defender you need fighting skill)
