That was just a misunderstanding. We have wrongly understood the three years rule. Sanchez made me clear about it and now I understand and don't do it anymore. Nore do Mike if his char is the same which I think about.

I think that another important reason why we as players don't understand the language when our characters should, is because it's hard to learn a language in 60 days. How many people have had a character closely involved with another language group for at least 3 real life years? That's why it's hard to make the comparison.

First of all please try t understand that I am not trying to get permission to break the rule! I am just debating the rule in general as a way to improve it (or the spawning process) It is meant to be positive criticism for the future of cantr that is all!.
As Jexter said, we did broke the rule earlier but it was do to a misunderstand of the rule, caused because I when a asked the PD about this kind of situation, they were just working it out and the 3 year rule applied in general ( at least that was what I understood). The part of allowing it to apply only to languages the players know OOC came later!
But Sanchez you are giving me reason when I say this rules benefits the English speaking players
You can speak English freely in the polish zone and every body will understand you! (even if they role play they don’t).And if they chose to role play they do, they only have to try to learn the language from your character for 3 cantrs year and you get full communication!
Other players don’t have that benefit! We don’t understand each other languages, so we can’t never learn to speak the languages our characters should learn in game if we don’t use a third language we both understand. And We may like of not but English works as the great equalizer in the language world today. To totally deny it from other players is giving the English players a unfair advantage.
And Alf I am not saying that all my characters would speak the same languages, nor that they would all learn to speak the languages I, player, already know! I am speaking about the freedom to do so in the cases I think it would make role play sense, and the tools to allow me to do this with out having to learn a new language myself
As I said one of my character lived all his live in a Lithuanian village, he has seen and heard talk and talked back to more them 30 Lithuanians, he is friends only to Lithuanian characters, loves a Lithuanian character, only spoke to 4 or 5 Portuguese characters and never for long, yet he can speak perfect Portuguese but he can’t speak Lithuanian
I ask of all of you to reply sincerely does the situation of my character (and many more like them) makes any sense??

Mighty Mike, your complaint makes sense in that Lithuanian is a difficult language. But while many players know some English, many do not. Everyone does not understand my English in the Polish Zone and in fact I am now enjoying trying to learn some Polish and am expecting it to take a lot longer than 3 years. It's true Spanish would be easier for me and I do not think this is unfair. What you are asking to be allowed to do clearly advantages the chars of English-speaking players much more than the inequity of the multilingual spawn zones. Your chars can speak Portuguese because that was the language you chose to spawn them with. It's likely very few players know both Portuguese and Lithuanian, so in that sense it is fair, though challenging. You all have to learn. Of course the Spanish/French/Dutch/German Zone will see more success in cross-zone learning, as those languages are more closely related. This is an interesting fact of the game, but not license to give you an exception to the rules everyone else is managing to follow. It does not make RP sense as you say to allow you to pretend you know Lithuanian. Whispering is not an exception to anything. You are creating unfair advantage for your chars and those with whom you speak English.
Please direct your discussion to spawning and language zone geography and not to the OOC generation of dialogue, as there is no exception for you in this rule.
Maybe there should be another region in which Portuguese chars can spawn apart from the Lithuanians. How would this affect the existing regions, history, etc. in the Portuguese Zone? Are there enough players to continue to support two regions?

Sorry Mighty, but I think your statement is absurd. You are the one that pull the strings of your charries and you have to learn the language, as much as you have to do maths to calculate the amount of resources to input in any machine. The tools needed are your brain, time, will, a good dictionary... and that's it, I guess. The freedom is there if you want to use it. If you can't learn a language for the reason you want, use emotes or stick to rp with the charries that use your own language.

I think the whole thing is ridiculous. You are an English character sailing around and you find people speaking another language. You try to communicate, if the player is bilingual, then talk all you want. Having them wait three years or so is just crazy. You hear what they say, know whats going on, but you have to pretend you don't? Why put up so many road blocks to playing a simple game?
I speak nothing but English and have met many people of othe rlanguages on my years at sea... but I can not imagine meeting a group that spoke some foriegn language I knew and acting like I was oblivious.
Using online translators is one thing, but using your own intellect to play the game is another. I fully understand the ultimate Capital Rule philosophy behind such trains of thought, but I think it is going overboard.

Bowser, there can be reasonable debate about allowing players to spawn multi-lingual chars, especially in the mixed zones. But that is not at all the same thing as allowing all players who can to use English wherever they like and pretend they are speaking another language. Why have language zones at all?

Right, and lets go further... if one of my charrie sees people another of my charrie knows and recognize them for their clothing or vehicle/ship why don't treat them as if this new charrie knows them already?
Or perhaps start using the maps my cartographer makes in all my charries, why not?
I already know the maps, the people, the ship/vehicles... lets indeed keep it simple. Then why bother to have different charries if all should know what I the player know?

At the moment, there are only 29 Portuguese players and 202 Portuguese characters. I haven't had any contact with them, but I would say that another region would spread them too thin.

Isn't the reason for having different language zones for people who only know that language?

That's how it starts. But then people travel and run into others speaking different languages. And then people can spawn in any town where at least one person of that language exists. The last is the real problem, in my opinion. The travelers choose to put themselves in that situation, but the newspawn is thrust into it. If the travelers leave without taking the newspawn, then he/she is probably doomed to live a socially crippled life.

Bowser: Try it! It's fun! if you ever meet a foreign char try to understand her and such... It's really fun and interisting to try and comunicate with other language chars...
I'd really like to do it but I always end up finding lithuans who kill me or just don't say a word all day.
...never saw any other char not lithuan or portuguese
Alf: being ironic, right?
Sanchez: No. we are spreaded enough and don't need another area, if that was what you meant.
who ever reads it: The spwan system sucks. when I make a portuguese char I should born on portuguese island, no where else... But now it's too late. We have made other towns outside already and it would suck for those towns if spwans started appearing only on the "main" island.[/b]

Maybe there should be a few options to choose from when you spawn.
Homeland or Pioneer, big population vs small population.
But what I really want to see is that two men in the desert can't get a spawn... I don't think it makes sense for people journeying through deserts and mountains to get children unless they really want to.
