Damage for.. sea going boats?

Postby Pie » Thu Aug 04, 2005 3:26 pm

I've been thinking.. the suggestion of certain amount of docked boats hase givin my idea. don't you just whant to hit yourself surly?

so.. what about when whether is made.. your boat could ged damaged with that,, and if two boats collide(maby?) it will caues damage too the hull.. and of course the normal flows and stuff of the sea... but that probably doesn't happen too much. but this will caues a way for sea battles(like.. cannons fireing, and stuff like that) and make way for pirats, and Privateers.(YES!)
and of cours.. corals scraping the hull.. barnicles.. rockes in the sea.. and stuff like that. this would also make way for a better reason for lighthouses.. you put a lighthouse on a rock that you cant see with a ship so that ships don't get too damaged.

i have to say.. sea travel is the biggest thing that needs stuff in cantr.. becous new lands are always coming up and we need to have better transportation to get to those new lands.

(EDETED IN!) how about you can repair the ships in harbors too? another reason for Harbors.. and another way to get the mony flowing.

pleas tell me what you think.

and the question: Do cantrians swim. Can they swim?
Because until that question is answered, we don't know whether or not they will just drown upon the sinking of their ship... But then, lifeboats become an issue. ;)
Ah! Imagine, the galleon called the Titanic sinking... and imagine twenty people trying to swarm one dinghy as it sinks...

I'd prefer it if wear and tear weren't implemented with boats the same way they are with tools... Wear and tear for boats would be better as the effects of adverse weather on the boats. Some ships would need more maintenance than others, and boats kept in harbor, perhaps, would suffer less damage than boats just tethered to the shore...

how about we have conseald rocks.. no barniicles.. no repair needed for ships.. ships getting damage when they colide.. and when whether happens.. sails will be hurt in storms.

The possibility for ships to be damaged would raise the use of lifeboats, but there is something else, too... Boats of equal size cannot dock to each other or communicate, but what if planks, or a ladder, or ropes were pulled between the two... Not exactly like a smaller boat docking to a larger one, but it would allow two ships to communicate, transport, trade at sea... It would also give pirates more possibilities...
What if a docking plank had to be made with a saw? It would keep just anyone from making it, yet it would still allow rescues at sea. :) Of course, this would just really be nice if it were possible to damage ships.

This also makes me think of ancient naval warfare...like in Ben Hur. Two ships ramming each other to sink the other one.

What if all the people and goods simply was ashore in the nearest town like people dying on the road?

but what if that shore was fifty days away? They would have to suffer some damage on the way there. And.. the goods could wash up on different places... like... if your five days away from Burgo.. but one day away from kirrin... one out of five of your stuff will go to burgo.

I think that cannons should be an exception to guns. I see the button to repair the place if you clikc on location, but is there a way to damage it...??? You could have multiple cannons on a ship, the more you have the more you could fire in a day. If you destroy a ship, it is just stuck out where it is, pirates can board the ship, kill who they want, take supplies, and leave. The wreckage of a the ship would just kind of float for maybe a few days.

Equipment should only go to shore if there was a location within docking distance.
