Use object on ground for project

Postby N-Aldwitch » Fri Dec 07, 2007 5:01 am

It can be quite annoying when you've just come back from somewhere with a large haul and it's all been dragged on the ground, now you have to throw it on to a project, bit by bit, picking some up, going to objects page, using it on project, confirming, picking more up, etc.

I suggest that there should be a 'Use' button for objects on the ground.

But of course, you have to "You see xxxx using xxx g of xxxx of hte ground in the project xxx", or people can steal things without being noted.

Not xxx, "some". Since that's what you see when they pick it up and when they add it. Only the actor sees the exact number.

Is this hard to implement?

Maybe. Imagine this, when a resource is in your inventory, no one else can touch it. You might die while trying to add it to a project but then you'll just get the can't play a dead character error. You might also eat the resource if it's a food but that only happens once a day. But when it's on the ground, someone else might pick it up or drag it or put it on a project. So when you click on a resource to add it to a project, it must fetch projects that need that resource, then you pick one and select how much you're gonna use, then it needs to check that the resource is still there and that there is enough.

Actually, I thought about something similar to this a couple days ago. I find it annoying when I want to add stuff to a project, but I have to keep going back to check exactly how much of a resource I need, how much I have, how much is on the ground, not to mention multiplying everything for a two-or three-day job...

Anyway, I got to tinkering with the Cantr source code* and came up with this concept idea. It's all fairly self-explanatory I think, but I don't know what the back-end technical details would be like. Anyway, it's just some basic thoughts I had.

Ulo, that's just gorgeous!
I want it, now!

Just one little thing - let the 'Take resources from the ground if necessary' box be unchecked initialy, so that there won't be 'accidental thefts'
