Radio Repeater Network, Can they Crash the CANTR Server?

Postby JustABill » Sun Dec 02, 2007 7:35 pm

I have a character that intends to build a network of radio repeaters in the near future. The intent is to place multiple repeaters each within range of at least one other so that a message sent from any one of them would be repeated on all of them. For example Trans A is in range of B, which is in range of C, which is within range of D. So a message picked up by A will be retransmitted and picked up by B, which will retransmit it to C, which will forward it to D. All repeaters will of course be on the same freq.

The problem that might happen is that transmitter A transmits the message which is picked up by B, which transmits it back to A, which transmits back to B and so on and so forth forever. This will drag the server to a halt.

Hopefully, the code which covers the repeaters is smart enough to know which messages it has sent and not to resend those messages.

If this is not the case, please let me know within the next cantr year or so and I will delay deployment of the network until this potential problem can be fixed.

I have been assured by the ProgD that such a cyclic reaction cannot occur.

Excellent, thanks. I figured as much, but didn't want to take the chance...

Radio code has been rewritten, so they should no longer generate lags and work fine even with multiple repeaters. Please report here any related issues.
