I saw that it was suggested before, but I think of something different.
It would be nice if we could do fireworks solely to RP purposes. Like a one-shot musical instrument. Then, with different resources, different colors. Like, magnesium is white, copper is green, salt is yellow, etc. So:
"you see blue fireworks popping in the sky"
Maybe, if people want signaling, fireworks could be heed inside buildings, (of course, not with the color). Plus, you could see it within a radius, like when traveling and near the town.
But the primary objective is party RP, not alerts and signs.

Hmm, could you tell from the top which rocket has which coloring agent? It would be rather interesting if all of them had the same inventory/on the ground description and the coloring ingredient would only be mentioned in the project when it was made. So it would be a surprise which color you're going to get, unless you make one at a time and don't let them mix in your inventory.
Off-topic: bonfires would be also nice for parties.

Would be a far less expesnive method for signalling atacking troops or on the other hand calling for reinforcement to break a seige then the radios.
Plus there there would'nt be any information being giving away like on radios, since those could have predetermined meanings to certain parties. They could be secretive signals between towns and people.
