well, really, for bicicles and similar metal objects,, you would only need to have a smelter, to re melt it doun into steel again.

Bikes would be more complicated than that, they have rubber tires too remember

yes, you would need a screwdriver to chang it. but if there is a bike project that has rubber in it, and it hasn't been started, you can just disasimble it.

Item deterioration is implemented, and I think the raw materials are salvaged when something decays completely.
Everything else is in the pipeline.

I don't think so. If that's true, it's news to me.

Yeah, when something has deteriorated completely, it crumples into nothingness.

You sure? I've come across a lot of bone spear components, and sticks which I assumed were previously complete things, plus odd piles of stone and bone which I'd assumed were from hammers, knives etc.
I also once lost a screwdriver from my inventory which was replaced by 60g iron..

Coincidence - Items decay to nothing - There is no residue left ... (though there are ghost database entries which wait about a week to be purged )

(In response to tiddy ogg.) I've never heard of that happening. I assume that spear parts lying around actually come from people making them and never putting them together. Resources come from dead people. Sure someone could test this by letting an item crumble in a room with nothing else on the floor. In fact if you could get the resources back from a useless item by letting it crumble then that would be cool. Many characters keep repairing things they don't actually need just because steel was used in making them. And sometimes ProgD replaces items by the resources used to make them if there was a bug that allowed making the item faster than what it's supposed to, or if it didn't require some part or resource it was supposed to need.

I suggest to merge this with the older suggestion http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4170

"Recycling" could be also on the topic title.
Tyche es una malparida. Espero que Ramnus y Pluto intervengan... o no :P
