Meeting people on the road

Postby berserk9779 » Tue Mar 09, 2004 6:38 pm

I think you should get some kind of message when you meet people on the road, and when you pass them too.

789-4 :You see a (char name) and a man in his twenties walking in the opposite direction you are.

789-5:you pass a woman in her fourties that is walking way slower than you.

789-6:You see a shining limo (car name) passing you at full speed

How likely are you in RL to miss someone on a path?
maybe if he's having a wee in the bushes... so you would have a 90% chance of meeting someone on the road if he is a man and 70% for woman (they usually take longer to wee...)

Going a bit further you should be able to trade on the road too.
If you can trade while working you should be able to trade when walking too.

"If you can trade while working you should be able to trade when walking too."

THere's a problem with trading / passing on the roads as implemented right now. It seems to be a pretty good sized distance that you can see/interact with someone. If you could pass items / trade between people within sight of each other then with only a handful of chars you could make daisy chains that would pass goods and materials along paths essentially instantly betwenn towns....

I would like road-trading to be implemented, but maybe just for people who are next to each other.

There's also the thought of people trading... one person gives the other their items, and the second waits/hesitates/sleeps and becomes out of range, and can't trade their end of the bargain back. I could see how thieves would use that...

But if a group went through the effort to do something like this, it would be legit in my mind.

Agreed. That's a whole lot of effort for that kind of thing. If they could swing it, it'd be legit in my book too.

My book's a fun book, too.

I have to agree on this one. It would be CRAZY, but possible, and if it were done... Thumbs up to them.

would need a lot of people for some of the routes ad who can garuntee that that someon wouldn't get sick of it and leave the line anyway would be a very boring job. unless some business person undertook it as a kind of pony express idea

I don't think it would be a good idea with trade on the roads, for the reason mentioned above, but then again I don't like the roads at all...I hope a grid system with more locations and very short road time will be implemented.

it'd take awhile too...i mean it'd be faster than walking, but youd need quite a few people and it may take awhile considering some may become inactive, but hey, if someone wanted to try it...itd be fun to hear the outcome...if they implemented it that is

out of curiosity how far is it that you can theoretically "see" on the road. I've always had the impression you can see for a pretty good distance... i.e. several turns away from each other travelling @ 100%

I like it.

But it would be a little tricky to implement. You all move at nearly the same time but not exactly at the same time. This makes tracking who you can see difficult as for a split second some people would be hovering in and out of your view.

Even giving out the realtive postion of the man would be confusing. If they were ahead of you going the same speed they may go out of sight when they move and come back in sight when you move.

Also they may be going slower than you, pass you, then you pass them.

The alternative would be to have a message go out each time a character moves for everyone who could see the movement. "You hear <a man in their twenties> walking". This would make the trails noisy. And if animals were added, yipes. But the limo passing would be covered. It would aleart everyone it travelled by that it travelled.
