make personal, non editable notes editable again.

Postby bmartes » Wed Sep 26, 2007 6:37 am

It happened to me twice that I have an editable note, saved and when I try to change it, it appears to be non editable. How clumsy of me.

Naturally I can bother the staff to change it, but would it be nice if there is another button to make personal, I repeat, personal non editable notes, editable again?

If that is possible, please?

Editable/non-editable switch is enough; even if we implement 'personal' button, you could accidentaly turn it off as well as you could now make note noneditable, so this doesn't solve any problem. Besides it's not so easy to accidentaly make a note noneditable.

When you can make a note editable, a note which you wrote yourself, that solves me bothering the staff and it gives met the opportunity to drop a note on the floor -non editable-, take it, make it -editable-, change it and drop it again -non editable-.

Bothering staff won't make it - we don't change note type on request. Proposed behavior is not realistic, also AFAIK "personal" means private and not allowed for others, so why drop down private notes.

Proposed behaviour could strongly affect gameplay, cause such notes could be used for person identification purposes. In example personal note of character X could be easily used for 100% identification, even by character who has never seen character X.

And you can always copy the non-editable content in a new editable note, save the non-editable note in the garbage envelope, and drop the new note (editable or not).

It happened to me that I made a non-editable note on my first day of playing and had to carry it around for years even though the style of writing didn't fit with the personality type of the character. I reported it and someone deleted the note as well as a copy I'd made and dropped (although they didn't remove the envelope I had stored it in, which says "OOC Please do not open this envelope, I wrote this note on my first day and did not know uneditable notes are really permanent.") So you can't really say that staff wouldn't fill requests if you honestly screwed up. I think it would be useful if there was an oopsie button that would allow switching a note back to editable if it was made uneditable within five minutes.

I wouldn't and I don't think anyone else would.

I don't wanna to wait five minutes everytime I make a note to be sure no one alter its contents.

For Seko's problem, carrying around notes that you don't want to have or leave behind, I would prefer the destruction of notes (discussed in other threads)

Perhaps if he rephrased it, it would have been accepted.
Perhaps if notes you make are branded as personal in the database.
This means, notes that are written by you, can be edited no matter what.
Notes not written by you, of course, remain the same.
Worth reposting/resuggesting?

No built-in ownership dude, that's especially why the suggestion got rejected. Imagine this, the king is about to go on a long voyage and won't be back for years. So he gives the town people a not editable note that says the one who can edit this is the true king. He's gone for twenty years and everyone who knew him has died of the sleeping sickness, but the newspawns still treasure the note. Then he comes back and says hey guys, I'm your long lost king! And indeed he's the only one who can edit the note. Granted, a person could create a copy with the exact same text... but maybe people could look at the note id. They are items after all.
