Omg! I never expected this: already 6 ppl who are willing to dj :).

Just a reminder: we need bandwith, lol 8).

I'm looking around atm, but prices are high and the income of 'regular' cantrplayer isn't high (i think... they're playing cantr all the time :p).

Maybe someone around here with a huge upload?

Well, we could always start out small and try it out and if it becomes popular to upgrade from there but have you tried talking to Jos or Thomas about help for this. I'm sure they could put you in the right direction.

M10M is sort of a..Japanese gothic-metal sort of thing. Kind of the direction Malice Mizer was heading before it broke up.

DJing is fun but can be stressy too. I DJ for WNUR-FM in chicago (www.wnur.org), and it's usually pretty fun. I guess DJing for an internet station would be more relaxing.

Soz, only 384 Kbits up here... was 98 so a great improvement already and none expectet in the near future...

How about combining 2 servers? if one is full, you could redirect listeners to another URL.

And me no like being DJ... I talk as little as possible. (Except when under influence from alcohol).

*Puts on a balaclava* Maybe i could get one from my school? *Pulls on some gloves* That would be enough? Maybe there would be a server for sale somewhere, like e-Bay, or something like that???? *Get a huge ruksack*

XBL is talking about setting up a server (nearly any comp could do the task) the problem is the bandwith, which is hired (Rented).

You can combine servers, yes... But I can't 'be' a server, since my parents told me to shut down my pc when I'm not using it (oh argh, I hate to be a young living with parents who are always telling what, and what not to do ).

And |west|, are you willing to do some partime work for cantr radio? If you already work for another radio station, then we have someone with the knowhow... :D.

Oh and spook, it's not really the hardware we need (you can set up ANY pc as a server, as long as it has sufficient amount of RAM and a 'good' CPU). It's more the bandwith problem... most regular ppl have broadband, but for customers, it's only aiming at the downloadspeed, and not on the uploadspeed. They don't expect that 'normal' ppl run a server etc...

And Some prices (for a 'real' server)
(the bitrate in kbps is the quality of the music. The higher the bitrate, the better the quality, the more you pay. Take around 96kbps till 128kbps for 'normal' quality (mp3 quality). So 56kbps isn't much... 24kbps is the lowest possible):

$50,00 for 40 listeners @ 56-64kbps per month @ http://internetradio.nu (they are cheaper with higher and lower bitrates)
$38,00 for 40 listeners @56kbps per month @ http://www.bean-net.net/prices.html
$36.95 for 40 listeners @64kbps per month @ http://screaminghost.com (the cheapest one so far... also looking at the quality (they don't have 56kbps).

What kind of 'max' should we actually put on it? 40 concurent listeners is 'much' for a small, starting, radio station (although I'm not sure how much ppl we'll get from the forums here, tuning in everyday ;)).

Quick question:

I downloaded the stuff needed for the boradcasting. Now is there a way to actually test to see if works before actually going live? I know my microphone works with the sound recorder program that I have with windows. Would that mean it would work with this stuff?

And also; is there a way to have more than one person on at the same time to have live discussions and for people to make a live call in or whatever you would call it in this case or can it only be one person brodcasting at a time?
