Who, Why, Where?

Postby Solutions Maximus » Fri Aug 17, 2007 9:12 am

Where has all the activity gone? What is keeping new players away from Cantr? What are some suggestions that will boost activity or will draw new players?

no new players? in the dutch areas there are much new players...

that is frustrating sometimes, because not all of them read the rules before they start the game...

i believe what you just said may very well be a reason there are few new players.

if someone doesnt read the rules when they start, spawns, grabs a bunch of stuff, gets imprisoned or killed, they'll probably quit. Of course, we can't just let them off the hook, but we gotta think about that.

I bet English Zone's lack of new blood is cuz americans like fast paced things, and Cantr just isnt their cup of tea. I've introduced cantr to like 8 people who then signed up, of the 8, 2 played more than 2 weeks, and i think only 1 of them might still be playing.

I hope I didn't make new players quit.. Sometimes I just don't want to deal with them and just kill them because they didn't know what they were doing.. Anyways yeah.

well that is the easiest thing to do. and personally, we don't really want the kind of player who does quit at something like that.

Whenever I see a new player making an effort to understand the game, I'll help them out.

I remember when I first started playing a few years back. I had never really done serious role-playing before. I read all the rules, etc., but I still didn't really understand.

I spawned my first character, entered all the buildings and then left town. I was followed by the town sheriff. He asked what I was doing. I said, "I'm not really sure, I just started this game." I think he just grumbled and turned around. Hehehe.

i want to say another big problem is inactivity, which is a vicious cycle. Charries sleep because there isnt anything to do, because everyone is sleeping, because they have nothing to do... Newspawn appears, introduces himself, everyone's sleeping, they go "this is boring" maybe unsubscribe maybe try to work on their own, hoping someone wakes up.

Hopefully they spawn somewhere populous and interesting and active.

Agreed. I've even gotten a little bored of late. No one is awake where my characters are.

I might try that... Nobody will know that I'm not new. :P

I did that last year. I gave myself a username like 1337imCool1996 and stole stuff, hit people and ran.

I agree. I always make it a point to say at least one thing with every character when I get on(which is like 50 times a day) if someone else has said something since I was last on. Pretty much what I am saying is, I always make sure when I log off that the last thing said was by my character(or by the other if I was in a converastion). If everyone would do that, then there would be alot more activity. The bad things is, is alot of players will just log on, read everything that happened, maybe hunt, and then log off. That doesn't get the game anywhere. Even if you just roleplay picking your nose before logging off, that is better than nothing.

I try to do the same when possible. Not only does it help to increase activity, it also increases the possibility of me having something fun to respond to when logging in the next time.

I have recently realised that it's partly 'caus nobody in cantr cares to make up any history, keep track of cool things that would get new players exited. And there just isn't a sertain in depth experiance that there should be, with differen't cultures and the like. I know you might say that the macgreggors are a lot differen't than the people at alexilad, or whatever, but sertain things just don't work in a slow paced game like this.

I've imagined, once in a wile, cool things like having movies in cantr, or a newspaper, and how it would work, or having a board game in cantr ('caus I know I have invented a few that still need some work, but i just don't know how to inplement it in game. I'm getting close though! :p) and it all comes down to players themselves realising that small things like, saying the right thing in front of people, or talking, or having something interesting to do wile your inside doing endless days of iron ore refigning, or just simply rotating your employee's from one room to another, giving them breaks, vacation spots... But nobody advances on it from just imagining. It's all about iron and steel in game.

I'm done ranting. sorry!
