I think one of my characters have seen toucans.
Leave the toucans as they are. Make that area SPECIAL.
Might want to do similar things with the new animals.

Keep pelicans and cheetahs on Aki or whatever the name is. Pelicans have to stay. They are a part of the culture.

When i played cantr this place already existed, had places called aki followed by more unronouncable words on it. Doubt they've just removed it.
Well... seeing how primitive and tribal Aki is... you have no maps (so no idea about how the size is and where everything is), idea of resources, barely and steel, and many places (I think) with no people.

Various animals have their various uses - as long as those with healing foods (eggs), clothing materials (wool) and foodstuffs (milk) are replaced with new ones with similar products, that will keep my characters happy.
Culturally, I don't know of any animals that affect my characters, although there's one in the Siom island who would be disappointed if the sheep left unless they were replaced with something else with wool.
From a player perspective, I have two ideas to suggest:
1) Can we have a little mixture of animals? My characters have thinks like horses, deer, sheep, cows, hawks, rabbits. All of these I can see within a five-minute walk from my front door, except perhaps the deer, which are a ten-minute walk from my friend's front door. Only racoons are animals which are "foreign" to me. For interest to me, it would be nice if there was just one animal which we wouldn't normally see, just so it makes it more fun to deal with new animals. The desert tortoise is a good example, but of course that's only in deserts so my characters don't see them. Be nice to have a random collection of wilderbeast or parrots or something that I don't find here in the UK normally.
2) Ranges. At the moment, animals can move wherever they like as long as they stay on certain terrains. If animals moving out of your area are killed further away, so never return, then your area is made extinct, or close to it. This is fine if the killing ground is next door, but if it's some way away, it's less good. We have trees all the way through the UK, but that doesn't mean we have red squirrels everywhere. They are confined to small areas. Whether they migrate is based on more than just whether they're in forest or grassland. Maybe to improve diversity, confine animals to smaller areas - that way one island can still have different animals that will never cross the island, so those on land can still find exotic animals elsewhere.

Can anyone please expand on the comments below. If these animals are important because of culture, I need to know why. If they're just important because of resources, then they can be replaced with comparable animals.
There were wolves there too? Please tell me how they are in the myth.

The raccoons around Blojt, I don't remember the details but I remember a few towns giving them a sort of protected status.
Sheep around the Olip area... I recall Olip West having stories about an army of sheep trying to kill Cantrians, not certain if that still holds any ground in that region but when I had chars in that area, between the 1300's and 1500's, there were other towns also getting in on the sheep stuff from Olip West.
Lions and wolves in the Krif/Drojf region: Several groups have based part of their Clan/group history around those animals.
The MacGregors were related to wolves, and their enemies were the lions, if I remember the stories from the old days correctly.
Two of my chars were actually named after the wolves, well, I named them before spawning, but the fact that they both happened to spawn in different parts of a region that had wolves, sort of made them stick to how they got their names from the wolves.
The hawks on Treefeather... in one Stone Knight town the hawks are considered the brothers of one or more Stone Knights.
In the mountains there have been several myths about hawks (for example, how the hawks dragged off someone after someone died from a hawk attack and there was no body, or hawks being considered protectors)

Hawks have always been prominent on the northern side of the Treefeather island as well. They have very central meaning to a certain character's being and have been one of the only two animals in that character's home since it's been there (30 or some-odd years). It would be too strange if they just disappeared (although the other animal, which were at one time often interacted with by some other character, raccoons, did disappear and were replaced by another animal). I don't think that the hawk should be taken away as well; it seems too much to take both animals that have been around for ages from a place with so few animals. I almost think hawks would be one animal that should remain on all islands that they're on because it's one of the most often used animals when characters look to identify with them, and they're probably very important and central to several places on the islands they're on.

And no, I will not get more specific on those locations here in the public part of the forum.

AFAIK, pigeons extincted at the Spanish island many years ago. They aren't critical, although feathers and eggs were commonly used.
I'm not sure if desert snakes are still around somewhere, but I think they are gone too. They were the other source of eggs, and the only animal to be afraid of for bone shield wearers. We are left only with the swamp snakes now. They appear in the heraldic shield of the main alliance.

The problem with Treefeather is that it's essentially 7 islands in one, with a plethora of isolated locations. I plan to use these bottlenecks to make Treefeather the most interesting and diverse island in the game.
It's my understanding that the lions and wolves were hunted to extinction. I was planning on bringing the lions back, but if the wolves and lions were both part of the same cultural mythos, it doesn't make sense to bring one back and not the other, so I'll do both.
Would anyone have an objection to replacing raccoons with badgers?
Also, Treefeather is officially extinct of desert snakes. They will be coming back, but not in their original incarnation. The sheep will also be replaced with a specific kind of sheep.

It was my intention to replace them with 5 different kinds of birds (no overlap, so still one bird type per location), but if the general consensus is that they're necessary for Treefeather, the hawks will stay, and I'll use the other birds on another island.
