[hypothetical] If you were..

General out-of-character discussion among players of Cantr II.

Moderators: Players Department, Public Relations Department

If you were a senior staff member, and you are approached by a rich snobby player who offers a $10,000 donation to Cantr in exchange for a character revival, what would you do?

I would do everything in my power to quickly process the request.

Read the poll above. If you want, add a comment too.

Staff members are also welcome to answer.

It's against the basic principles of that game, and that's why I wouldn't ask for that. ;)

Ah yes, but it could fund Cantr for many years to come, hell - it could fund dual servers, it could pay for extreme advertising. It may even pay for TV advertising.

Thank you N-Aldwitch - a nice means to identify those players who really don't quite grasp what Cantr is all about :)

Oh and I've not voted nor do I plan to

anti, if you were promoted to a very high position in Cantr (level with Jos.. meaning you make the big decisions), would you accept $100,000 to revive any character? $100,000 for Cantr, that is.

It's like that old joke:
A man goes up to a girl: If I was a millionaire and offered you $100,000 would you let me spend the night with you?
She: Yes, probably.
He: Well will you give me a romp for $5?
She: What sort of a girl do you think I am?
He: We've alreaady determined that. Now we're just haggling over the price.

Would the staff prostitute themselves?
I think the finances are ticking over OK. I know athere are server problems, but due to the efforts of Chris and friends, that's not too bad now.

I voted a big No No.You couldn't revive a character without turning back Cantr time. So it wouldn't be up to programming but every player playing to be paid that bribe amount to lose the time they would lose already played by being reversed. And guarenteed if the character wanting reviving was killed, who's to say that the character wouldn't be right back again six foot under give or take a few days again. So haha. When they are dead they are dead.

Live, live to the full as fate will be leading
It won't bring you back even if you are pleading.

Live life to the full and seek out your lessons
your'll never know death till fate calls and beckons.

The way I view this, I voted no due to the morals.
Bending a little rule (if technically possible) because something took place like a glitch where resources were lost, that's one thing... but once chars are revived for money, it changes the complete nature of the game into something that's wrong with lots of other games.
I've played games where donators got extra perks and quirks and whatnot, causing unfair and unbalanced gameplay, where those who were playing for fun, to get away from daily life for a few minutes, got wiped out every time, while those who donated would head the top lists, in games that boasted prizes for good playing.
Granted, those were the type of games where you "play" a pimp or warlord or gangster, the extent of gameplay in those games was along the lines of "enter number, click purchase button, add knights/orcs/thugs/ho's to your stable, attack player X, repeat", but still... they offered prizes for playing better than others, but the prizes only went to those that paid/donated and got the extra boosts to their game.
So, in effect, they bought their prizes.
If charries start getting revived for money, then every suicidal spawn can pay to have their chars revived, at a location of their choosing, with equipment they want... because you can't stop taking money at just revival. Once you start to offer such options, you gotta take the next step and offer the possibillity of location, equipment, and what not... and then it wouldn't be about active players anymore, but about who has the deepest wallet, the fattest checkbook...
Now, had the question been if I'd kill peoples' charries for money if I were in such a position... hm..... hmmmm.... heh... (edited for some annoying typo's)

If a person dies then it happens for a reason, an ingame reason unless it was due to an error or if the person accidentally clicked the button, which cannot happen nowadays since it requires the password. Also when a person dies, it affects other characters. Making someone rise from the dead would affect things. And death being permanent is one of the major aspects of Cantr, one of the things that separates it from all the other games. At the moment I cannot remember a single game where you couldn't be revived at least a few times. If your character dies that means they were weaker than some other character(s) or animals or couldn't plan ahead well enough. So they paid with their life. If one person was given a second chance, especially if it was due to them paying enough money, that would be unfair towards all the others. The only case where I would've been ready to make an exception was when PirateLass accidentally cancelled her account, but not because of money but because she was a nice person and the whole thing was an accident. But it created some good drama and she got over it eventually. Too bad she also got bored with Cantr later on. Some people invest a lot in their characters, they play with their heart, and when an important character dies, or in the worse case, several important characters die, the player cannot contribute as much to the new ones.

No.

I have had one revived, because it was a technical mistake made by higher powers that resulted in its death.

Hey, if Jesus Christ can come back from the dead, so too could a player in Cantr. Especially for 10,000 dollars.

Heh, there's no proof he ever did, fuschyou. And as we all know, there are no miracles in Cantr. It's in the rules.
