a train would be an awsome but possibly hard thing to do(program i mean)? Would be alot of work just for the steel and iron to go into it with how the iron is now days, also would require coal or wood to power the engine... Would be awsome anyhow, would bring alot of interesting ideas and people to the game, like train robbers an such, make it so the tracks can be broken (at a town) to stop the train from moving so it can be boarded.
Alot of ideas swimming around in me head for trains and wha can be done to them.

Wouldn't be hard too implement, since vehicles in cantr already act a lot like trains. First thing is allow trains to be built in the vehicles section and it would work just like any other vehicle. Then on the roads, you have a seperate improvement option to add railroad tracks. This would be very expensive and require a lot of labor. So you would end up with something like "highway with railroad tracks" or "sand road with railroad tracks". Like other vehicles, the trains could only travel on roads with that improvement. Trains would be able to carry a lot more weight than cars relative to the cost. (balanced by the extreme cost of laying the tracks). Another advantage could be that people would be able to start and work on projects inside like in buildings and maybe they wouldn't be able to interact with the things outside either.
DOOM!

And in order to use the tracks you'd need to build a station or platform of sorts too. That could also make it more profitable for the people who build the tracks--make sure that only their cars run the tracks, and that they get the fares too.

I'm just picturing the ticketing process and how to keep stowaways off...
:: Person hands fare to conductor ::
:: conductor and associate drag person into a locked car ::
Seriously though, great idea - I'd love to see trains implemented. The cars would definetly have to be like a second vehicle that you can attach to the engine - this would let people build their own cars to fill with product and then have it taken to another city for sale/trade by someone with an engine.

Or add wooden carts to the train tracks, with iron wheels or something. One shove and they'd be sliding quickly off to the next town! No need for an engine, just an elevated road. ^^
... Altough then all the wooden engineless carts would end up in the valley locations...

Let's keep this simple:
add some new levels to the currant road system or add an option to build train tracks for small trains and another for larger trains. Maybe building this would require iron for the first and steel for the larger to the path.
add a hand car to the vehicle list.
(for those who don't know what this is it's a one or two manned
platform that travels on the rails operated primarily by the
pushing and pulling of a lever by the operator/s)
http://www.handcar.net/
add a small train to the vehicle list.
add a large train to the vehicle list.
Now you don't need to add any type of special building or platform cause there is no reason why a train can't just stop at a location.
Lots of good info:

I got lots more info and would be interested in aiding anyone who wants more info

Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.
