Marriages?
I have seen a fair few marriages in Cantr recently.
They're completely OOC, I mean, Cantr doesn't really conform to an Era but if it had to, it would be post-stone age (minus the cars)... yet people talk about 'joining in holy sacrimony'... this is based off Christian religion? There is no Christian religion in Cantr, nor any priest to bind a couple. I just think it's completely OOC.. an OOC tactic to ensure your character's loved one doesn't run off.

Bah. Who needs ceremonies. I have a charrie who asked someone to marry them, and they were engaged for a while, then my charrie just decided they were married. Much easier that way.
But I would like to a divorce case. Might be interesting.

Of the... very few (2 or 3?) I've that were "married", two had a ceremony and it was very simple and very IC. Just a declaration of being dedicated the other person in presence of friends. The other one just.. well they just said, we're "married". I guess it was 3 total. Haven't had any others go that far, though a couple have had a significant other or two.

I know there is at least one religion in game that encourages a sort of marriage. The trouble is, they call it "mating".. which makes no sense in game. lol.
I've had two that were married, and they both just sort of ended up "married". The way I see is, there's next to no documentation of marriage and format, and definatly no verbal tales of any such events. I'm very suprised that those players out there that have the huge, long, RP'd wedding ceremonies haven't been more creative/written anything down. We can build cars, but we can't establish the basis of culture?

I was going to ask once about divorces/breakups IG. Then I realized that most relationships in Cantr end by one of the pair dying (either sleeping sickness or....
). I know there are couples who decide to go their separate ways, but I think they are a minority.
Anyway, my one char in a relationship got married with a verbal agreement, then they announced it to the rest of the town. There was a method to it, but nothing written that I know of...more like a tradition witnessed or told by other chars there.

Ewww, stabbing! Sounds painful. Two of my characters have gotten married and both times it was a public announcement where both parties announce their love and talk some about how they met. There was also an arranging person or people involved. And pretty clothing for the woman, although the wedding dress continued to be used as a daily dress after the wedding.
I remember Kayleigh getting married and getting a whip as a wedding gift. That's memorable. Also another wedding I saw happened indoors because both the bride and groom were very shy and didn't know anyone outside, so it was better to keep it to the "family circle". Unfortunately the woman soon got the sleeping sickness and after she died, the husband never woke up either. They never had time for their honeymoon.
Terms like wedding, marriage, bride, groom, fiancée, best man and honeymoon come from outside of Cantr but it would be hard to convey things if everything was described purely with ingame terms. Marriage could be emotional commitment and who's to say that female and male parties need different names, or that there has to be one of both sexes involved? It would be awkward to use a two-word term instead of "wedding", yet no other single word can convoy the whole meaning. It's not necessarily even emotional, irl people used to marry because it was a custom, it was their duty as a community member. But in Cantr because it's not needed to create newspawns, people only marry when it brings them emotional or financial gains.

You know what Divorce actually means in cantr... Doomed In Violence Or Relatively Comatised Ending.
They don't have courts to battle things out, and if i've played one widow, i've played a million. It soon gets boring, Horray for spit roasts. Mine would like to sling the next body on the spit and have it done with a final feast, so at least those around don't get too bored of the grief and at least get lunch while having to see roleplayed tears again.
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent and Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect. It means you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.

John and Eve Desmond Locke's divorce was quite messy and very public.
