Roasted potatoes on a small fire pit

Postby bmartes » Sat Jul 07, 2007 6:59 pm

I tried to check if it is mentioned before, but I couldn't find it.

I miss making roasted potatoes on a small fire pit.

made in same percentage as roasted carrots?

Sounds like a good idea although potatoes can be made in several ways. And also there's a sticky topic for meals so could you post this there?

That's possible, but is it a possible meal or a enhancement of a small fire pit?

The reason for not adding stuff on the firepit is that the list is damn huge so it would need some new system. Technically nothing is preventing RD from adding stuff like roasted potatoes on it, the only problem is the length and disorder of the list. And that everything requires two entries due to fuel.

Let me try to help:

Food can be devided in groups:
Level 1: Food that can be eaten directly: carrots, potatoes etc.
Level 2: Food that has to be prepared: grilled meat, roasted carrots, roasted potatoes etc.
Level 3: Food where the ingredients needs a special treatment: To make bread, you need flour. To make flour you need a millstone.
Level 3 is also food which need a "difficult" instrument: To make a pot, you need a chisel. For a chisel you need iron.

When you look at the food machines, you can divide them also in this categories:
Small fire pit: level 1:
useful to make level 2 foods, outside
The use of the pot is removed because thats level 3
Spit: level 1:
level 2 foods, also outside
The use of the pot is removed, as it is level 3

Small oven: level 2 foods. Baking bread removed as it is level 3.
Fire place: level 3 foods , inside
oven: level 3 foods, inside

Maybe we have to introduce a new sort of food machine for the food processing with a pot outside.
Three wooden sticks to attach the pot on and some stone?

There's been talk of turning pots into portable machinery.

I don't get your message. Pots are portable at this moment.

New cookers as portable machines, like the bucket. There are a couple of these proposals in RD at the moment. And discussion of the menu format for the existing cookers as well.

bmartes, it would mean that instead of having the "cooking X (pot)" in the drop down menu for the firepit, you would have a use button on the pot and if there is a firepit in the location, you could start a project from the cooking menu of the pot. Although that would allow several projects on the same firepit and what about deck grills then?

So, like how the anvil is now basically? How would that be handled when it can both be used directly and as a requirement? How about if someone is already cooking something on the only fire pit, can you still use a pot on it as well?

To make a deckgrill you need a trowel. For a trowel you need iron. So a deckgrill is also a higher level cooking machine.
Maybe there has to be a simple deckgrill, made of stones built without a trowel and only buildable on a boat which uses no iron (longboat etc.)
Or you can make a simple deckgrill upgradeable to a full blown deckgrill.

The simple deckgrill is usable for the use with no pot, the other for use with a pot.

Level 1 food should rot fairly quickly, be consumed in large quantities (half the gathering rate per day) and heal a small amount of damage if it's healing food.
Level 2 food should rot slower, be consumed in smaller quantities (a fifth to a tenth of a day's output) and heal some more damage if it's healing food (three to six percent a day).
Level 3 food should rot hardly, be consumed in small quantities and heal most. The amount healed per day's food production should not be much larger as level 2 food, but process should reduce more weight, while conserving the nutritious and healing properties.
