That would be valuable information, because that's a general problem in the Esperanto region

One of my chars has made contact with four different language groups so far (five if you count notes too) and it's very interesting roleplaying because I (as a player) understand all of these languages to some extent.

Ever met a pirate who's not an ass?

My Swedish character found limestone now, it was in a place he has visited earlier. I should pay more attention to keeping a travel journal.

actually yes ;p

he was a pirate for a living, not to make people suffer and then kill them.

The Dread Pirate Roberts (Wesley in The Princess Bride)
Captain Jack Sparrow...OK, he's an ass, but a lovable ass.

Ooh, I watched that movie with wichi when he was here. I think the guy was a bit of an ass sometimes but it's better than being a total pussy. The question is how do you draw a line between an ass and a charming rebel? ...And I meant in Cantr.

I think there are several key points, IMO:

1) Everything needs to be done with an end-goal in mind. No one loves someone that carries out indiscriminant violence. If you're going to kill me, I at least want to die for a reason (that's preferably explained before hand).

2) A good pirate should be loved by some. Pirates need safe-havens, and you can't be likeable if you're a jackass. If some victims come into your safe town to spill the beans, you want the locals to kill them for you instead of saying "yea, that figures, we'll kill him when he gets back..."

3) Talk to your victims, and show mercy. Killing should always be done out of necessity, not whim.

4) Treat your crew well. You don't want them turning on you in a pinch. One man that feels guilty about killing you can spoil a mutiny.

5) Keep your word.

Zanthos, you do realise, I hope, that these inflamatory comments have been noted in the Polish forums and cannot but now inspire a generation of truly well-equipped and well-trained sailors from PZ. Not these rare small groups of Polish and Swedish rogues, who most of you can't seem to be able to distinguish. You are generating actual cross-zone enmity with the majority population. And we in the EZ are doomed.

Yes, i was thinking the same. Don't take one rogue polish pirate as the majority. To be honest i've met plenty of polish characters and all were just great, entertaining and friendly. And they really do their best to try to teach and expand on the Slownick dictionary. It's not easy in mixed lands, but mine have been quite safe travelling them and are almost sixty now. There is nothing like roleplay charades to try to learn a language. Most i have met have been very intelligent players that will emote in english but keep the speaking in Polish which helps enormously to bridge the language barriors that you come across.

Who wants to be normal...... Normal means you are with the majority.. and I dont want to be with them......

I have a pirate that is kind-hearted. Not a killer, a seeker of wealth and adventure.

O.O

I sometimes fail to remember that sarcastic hints dont come across online, and expecially when being translated. If possible, express my appolgies.

[edit] I must say though, the polish i have met in their own zone are much nicer than those i met in other places. the pirates i saw came in three seperate boats, and when they all arrived, started attacking everyone in sight. However, I had an english charrie spawn in PZ and everyone he met there (besides 3 rogues) were all extremly nice and helpful, and tried to help me learn some polish as well. {i tried, and failed. im not good with languages}

But truth be told, although they might not represent the playerbase, I've probably met 12 different polish characters (i dont move around a lot), and 6 of them have tried to kill mine. *Edited for releasing current information and locations.* -Hermitess
