No insta-death. Allow swimming. A couple of times I've been thinking right outside a location, how come I can't just jump overboard and swim to the shore. If people could only carry up to 1 kilo without a floating device such as a log, starvation would prevent people from swimming long distances. Tiredness and hunger would raise the chance of drowning. If eating while floating would be prevented, a person might still live up to 20 days if there was no drowning besides after starvation and that sounds like too long. But for a healthy strong person it should be possible to pass from Longinazy to Shortinazy by swimming. Yes I know, wrong topic for this.
I think dropping cargo from ships was already suggested earlier. It should be possible to fish it up with a rope that has a big hook attached to it. Though it wouldn't always work and items and resources would deteriorate rapidly while underwater.

If we can't actually drag them overboard, could we at least hold them them by their ankles over the water? You know, just to scare em?
Also, maybe we could have it to where people can't be dragged off, but they could jump off, so you could have a 'Jump off and swim and maybe live or I'll kill you situation.'

A possible swimming implementation:
- Put on any boat, beach and harbor, a location "sea" or "lake".
- When a character is dragged into those locations, or steps in by himself, he is in the sea/lake, and then the system treats him as a boat swimming.
- Any load in the characters inventory gets lost (except maybe what is inside bags and the like). Or remains in the place where the character step out, if we don't want newspawns desintegrating valuable stuff.
- The "boats" swimming can have only one character, maximum speed 2 to 4 (for example) depending on the strenght (or the swimming skill).
- When swimming, the character tireness will increase 1% per turn, plus 1% per each pixel travelled, plus <speed>% (always, for example).
- This "boats" swimming can dock to any other boat except other swimming characters.

I like it except, going from what you said, if someone goes in the water, they have 20 days to live because all there food will not be with them.
And, people shouldn't be able to be dragged off a boat. Because imagine, you log on, go the char and all of a sudden, -SPLASH- you're in the water and the boat is moving too fast for you to catch up. And what happens next? Drowning...

Good point, but already in sight.
I think 20 days (= 1 year !!!) swimming is quite a lot.
Could you be swimming 20 days in open sea in RL?
But, as I said...
If you have a bag, you can hold some food with you. More days swimming.
And as Arlequin said...
Or, if the pirates sails several days for taking you far from the coast, they can aswell kill you with their weapons instead of dragging you off. And btw they are training.
The main issue I find here is that this makes really easy to steal inventories: drag to sea the leader, and take all his keys, weapons, etc.
Solution: allow swimming characters to hold all their inventory.
No more irrealistic than carrying 15 kg of sand by the roads.
....
But increase ALOT the decay rate of everything in the inventory, and even a new disease for those that spend too much time in the sea would be reasonable... and random attacks of sharks.

There should be a way to prevent from being dragged away.I mean, this idea becomes pretty...In real life, people don't usually try to drown each other, but in a game you can't expect the same.Like make wooden barriers on the decks so pirates can't climb without something like a hook and mutiniers won't make their way so easy.

There is already, start dragging yourself to a cabin, hold or a docked boat. The best case would be to start dragging yourself ashore while you're still in a harbour, since this project they cannot complete without docking back to the place where you left from. The only problem is that you cannot do anything without letting go.

Just treat swimming characters much like ships. Give them a "virtual boat" location that can dock to land, coaster harbors, landing stages, etc. They should be able to dock to dinghies, longboats, etc too, but not larger ships.
