Coin press
I was thinking about a coin press. What if a town that has established itself could build a coin press. The coins would be made of gold, and silver. This would make it valuble. The coins from the press could have a name pressed on it, like the name of the town, This would make the coin valuble and act as a type of currency used in the town. Since it is made of gold it would be valuble in other towns that wish to except the money.
Does anyone else have any ideas how this could be improved upon?

While I think it would be a great idea at some point, I think right now it would kill what is currently just an emerging trading and bartering system in the game. While some have done it all along I think with Iron becoming more scarce etc. we'll start to see people move away from the "do it all myself" and more towards the emergence of skilled labourers and entreprenuers etc.
A coin system right now would jump the commerce development forward unnaturally a little too much I think.

gold had never had so much practical value.. maybe in recent times... it was used to make currency because it was rare and controled by nobelity.., it is known that coins can be faked but beffore someone will do that he/she need to have orginal coint (at least he/she must see it) and own gold ore and press... I think that gold production could be complcated like iron... Also there could be something like unique patttern on coins that could be faked but with someone effort, and someone could compare and see that it is faked

I do not like the idea of money being introduced in cantr, als oif it will be really useful for travel.
I have a char going arounf with 7 kg of iron and all her gear. a real slug...
making coins a region related question. would cancel also this advantage making it next to useless. lets leave bartening as it is

IRL gold coins were a statement of purity of the metal within. That is it. No economic group regulating or controlling gold. Gold had a value. The coins were only worth their weight in gold. If conterfiets were made in less than gold.
It was not until the Nixon era that the gold standard was departed from.
There is iron, steel, the cloths, and even rope that can be used as currency now. Why didn't real life use cloth and rope as curency? Because you couldn't cut it up into 300 different 1 gram pieces and put it together again like in Cantr.
Just my opinion which if you look back has changed.
That said medallions with inscriptions would be nice.
