Effect of sails

Postby Cherize » Sat Jun 02, 2007 2:40 am

In the wiki does the sailing increase reference a percentage increase of the base speed or an addition to the base speed?

A multiplier of the base speed, not the end speed. So for instance, if your ship had a base speed of 50 and had -40 from the weight effect, and the sails double speed, it would be 100-40 for a total speed of 60 (6 times the speed without sails). Sails can therefore add an enormous amount of speed to any ship, but it is most noticeable on sips that are heavily laden.

I should add that to the wiki, but I'm not sure how to put it so it's simple to understand.. Suggestions are welcome.

It works like that talapus? Odd, it should affect basespeed and then the weighteffect is calculated.
OT My sailing char has a problem with lack of sight rather than speed, no crow's nest or radar, no birds or weather to see, must be very distant from land... But shouldn't be! Or the Gallagher atlas is not up to my expectations... it's tough to log in every hour and look for a green spot on my line of vision.

Yes.
It is that way.

BASE_SPEED*(1+TOTAL_SAILS_FACTOR) - TOTAL_LOAD/WEIGHT_EFFECT

Try to get a telescope, and a sextant is usefull also.

Yes, it's easier to forgot that character an wait until you touches coast.

Yeah, I noticed it's not accurate with ...stuff. Many maps have their flaws. Nowadays they have the locations and connections pretty much correctly but distances are still off.

We did intend that full rigging on the raker, galleon, and skimmer should make a telescope or other viewer necessary for proper navigation. Otherwise, as Frits says, you will have to log in regularly since you'll be seeing a new view every tick.

Or then, a person might drive less than full strength when navigating near coasts and save the full speed for crossing the open seas. :!:

Is the Gallagher guy still alive?? I'm pretty sure when I hacked Cantr, I edited things to make his death look natural? :?
