Awareness

There are chracter that wish to be noisy and ones that wish for silence.

How about an awareness level.

Normal Awareness: Things like they are today.

Completely Aware: Chance to hear whispers. No progress on projects maybe needs subdivided. Can see personal events {eating, project done/start/switch, note writing {x writes/edits a note}, envelop stuffing {x puts a note in an envelop}, wear people are looking {x looks at people / objects / location/ activites}, attempts to enter locked buildings without a key or crowbar.

Concentration 1: No observation of people coming into town and buildings, pointing, trading/picking up/dropping resources/notes/objects {sight awareness down}. Speeds up projects.

Concentration 2: 1 + no whispers/no drag observation. More speed to projects. {hearing awareness down}

Concentration 3: Maybe a skill that needs to be praticed. Normal talk change to "You hear [chracter] say something". Hearing of lockpicking gone. More speed.

Meditation: Hear and see nothing except getting hit or all capitals "says to you". Faster healing. An art/a hard skill.

Completely aware seems very interesting (Sherlock Holmes comes to Cantr :) ) But wouldn't concentration make it nearly impossible to get robot resource-gathering types into the rest of the game? Most people do most or all of their conversation while working on projects. A motivation not to talk and work at the same time doesn't sound like a good thing.

Also, what is to stop someone from going to "completely aware" for the middle of the hour and swithing to meditation or concentration 3 just before the end?

I say let them. You can always shout in thier ear to pester them.

I was thinking the bonus would be modest at best.

Didn't think of that. Guess it would have to be selected at project start time. It would be funny to refuse to work on others projects because the project required too much concentration.

...and then someone can drop project, be aware, and resume it before end of hour. It would be better allowing only one or two times at day to change awareness.

Also it could be one more level - sleeping: no progress on projects, can't see and hear, faster healing - if in bed then even faster healing.
