Oil Platform

Postby Reindeer^ » Tue Jun 05, 2007 7:19 am

I have one kind of  suggestion:

Oil Platform

Oil platform can be build only on sea (also quite far from the mainland). It would be a location on sea because you can build buildings (only two or three) on it and when you enter this building you leave the central area of the platform. :P

You can build an oil drill on it (maybe only one or two for one platform) and all other needed machines (smoker, drying racks, curing tubs etc. )

I would be cool to see communities living on sea which future depend on is the food ship coming or not. :)

This is the most awesomest idea ever.

However, there should be a maximum it can be placed, but also a minimum, from the shore... but far enough so you can't see it from the shore.

i think your wrong in the distance, it should be able to be seen from sea, from a fesability standpoint. we don't have modern things like gps here, so it has to be pretty easy to find things, and forcing the platform to be built out to sea out of sight of land just makes things difficult.

However, i think there should be some way to make the platform selfsustainable. boats can fish now, right? so you'll need to make some fuel from the oil and then cook the fish to live, not relying on imports except to help the supply.

Of course.
I didn´t realize that... But some resources have to get from the mainland.

Before you have an oil platform:

* you have to find the oil underwater -> suggest something to detect underwater oil fields.

* you have to build a platform in the water -> suggest something to build structures under water (specialized ships and machines... and skin-divers... and submarines...)

Before you have a submarine....

I would accept this after 2010.

You don´t have to detect water before you are building a water pump. (correct if I am wrong)

Water pumps have nothing to do with this - Water is in all LAND locations in Cantr - Oil is not .

Even though there is free roaming over sea this will not be implemented until Full Free Roaming is implemented and full resource limits and dispersion are calculated and added ... A long time off.

Full resource limits and dispersion? Just from the name I think I know what that is, but care to enlighten me?

I guess, "resource limit" refers to the delimitation in the 2D map (maybe a grid) of the resources, so when you are in any place you can query the map about what resources can be found in that point (or cell of the grid).

"resource dispersion"... maybe the natural "roaming" of resources like plants and fish shoals? (and animals!)

Sounded more like this to me...
Limit: currently done by resource slots, which have no meaning in a world where every pixel is a quazi-location
And Dispersion: setting the boundries in which resources are found... currently done per location, will need full resource maps before oil platforms could be set properly.

I'm not totally sure what I meant ;) - written at a time of lag (both machine and my own mind)... probably the both mean the same thing - Nakranth's description of Dispersion and Sicofonte's description of Limits (which amount to the same) are probably what I mean
