Text Adventure

Postby formerly known as hf » Wed May 02, 2007 1:47 pm

You stand up, head swiming. As your surroundings come into focus you see a deserted road heading east and turning sharply to the north. Some points of light can be seen to the east. The land drops steeply to the west, and to the south lies fields and forest as far as you can see. About 20 meters from the turning lies the wreck of an old pick up truck.

You raise your hand to your forehead. You seem badly bruised, and there is dried blood, but can feel nothing broken. Your right side is grazed, but not painful.

You can't seem to remember what you are doing here, if that truck is even yours, or much else it seems.

The truck is part burried in the earth and seems to have been rusting there for some time. A small group of animals have been nesting in the cab. There's a shiny object on the seat, which looks out of place.

You pick up the shiny object. It appears to have a piece missing from it. The piece that is in your hand has some small writing on it.

This is the Property of P....
United States Department of....
Sensitive Material inside plea.....

You look around for the other piece. Maybe it can tell you who you are, what you are doing there, and where you were going. Behind the seat you slighty see an object that looks like it could be squared, but dented up and may be the piece that is missing from the piece that is in your hand.

You frantically attempt to examine the object closely whilst beating it up. The act of pummeling it makes close examination impossible. Trying to look at it in detail makes your attempts at slamming it against the truck feeble.

Your lack of coordination results in an abject failure to both examine and beat up the object.

However, the act isn't entirely futile, it teaches you more about your lost past. You realise that your ineptitude at doing two things at once means you must be male.

You drop the item, and realise it is just a piece of rusted exhaust. Further search in the truck yields nothing. Whatever happened to the other half of your shiny object, it's not here.

> go west

You head west, to the drop. Looking down, you can see no obvious path, if the other part of your object went that way, it's lost. You head back to the truck.

The wind has picked up. Grey clouds can be seen in the distance.

You stand in front of a small house.
>look house

It is two stories high and light blue. There is a small slot with the number 23 next to the door.

>enter house

You run into the closed door.

>open door

The door is locked.

Inside the slot you notice an "envelope" and a flask.

>get ye flask

Ye cannot get ye flask

>get envelope

You take the envelope.

>examine shiny object

It is a small, well polished stone with a mother of pearl hue. Inscribed around the circumfrence of the stone is a long chain of letters:

Go east.
In the field stands an angry bull.
Examine bull
It does not seem pleased to be disturbed. It lowers its head, making the bell round its neck tinkle merrily.
Get bell.
You reach for the bell, but the bull tosses you high in the air back to the west.
You are at the bottom of a cliff. Night is fast approaching.
Look...

You are at the bottom of a cliff, amogst some rocks. Waves lap the rocks, spraying you with salt water. It is getting dark and the wind is picking up.

Over to your left, a few feet away, you see your leg. It must have torn off during the fall.

>get leg

Your leg is just out of reach.

>go to leg

You struggle to move your body with your arms. You fail.

You are bleeding heavily. Maybe this should be your priority?

>sit up

You push your torso upright.

>get leg

The leg is still out of reach
What do you intend to do with your leg? Sure, it's not everyday one gets to examine your own severed leg. But I see no surgical team on standby to re attach it? Or maybe you're a bit peckish?

You're still bleeding. A lot. Sitting up has made you faint.
You fall back.

>bandage leg
Nice idea. With what?

>inventory
-envelope
-shiny object
-"Welcome to Text Adventure!"

You aren't feeling all that great.

>bandage leg with envelope
The sea water has destroyed the envelope

>bandage leg with "Welcome to Text Adventure"
Je ne pas comprende

The world rocks start to shift out of focus.
Some seaguls are circling, making that annoying noise seagulls make.

>Take off shirt and bandage leg
Too many instructions chuck.

You have fainted.

>Take off shirt
Your unconcioussness renders such actions impossible.

A light seems to appear in the distance. A ship, maybe?

>look at light
It's growing larger.

>wave to ship
You are unconcious. You have blacked out. No arm waving for you sonny...

A warmth envelopes you. It feels nice.

>sit up
You can't. You are dead.

You are dead. Score 23/300. Try again?
Load, Quit, Continue?
> Load
You didn't save your game
Idiot.

>Continue
Ok.
Continues left: 0

-----------------------------

In the field stands an angry bull

>save
Game saved to slot 1

>examine bull
It does not seem pleased to be disturbed. It lowers its head, making the bell round its neck tinkle merrily.

>run
Where?

>away
That's not a valid direct. Cardinal or relative direction please.

>run west
You run to the house. The bull doesn't follow

Exam house
It seems very small. It has two storeys, with two windows facing you on each level, and a central door.
Open door.
You pull at the door. With a creak the whole of the house front swings towards you... I told yo it was very small... about doll size I should say.

Look in house.
The upper floor is one big bedroom with three beds of various sizes.
The lower floor is divided into two rooms, the right side containing 3 chairs, again of varying sizes, the left hand room containing a table holding three bowls of porridge, and a vase with a single purple flower..
What do you do now?
Enter house.
You can't, you're far too large.
Take flower.
Taken.
Eat flower.
There is a shimmering and the house seems to grow larger. I guess that flower was a shrinking violet.

>Enter house
You are in a small house. To the left is the kitchen, to the right the lounge.
It is getting dark. You are tired. You are hungry.
>right
You are in the lounge. Ther only furnishings are three chairs, small, medium and large.
>sit in large chair
You are tired. You are hungry. I don't think it's a good idea to waste more time playing musical chairs.
>left, left.
You are in the kitchen. There is a table containing three bowls of porridge, small medium and large on a large table, which also contains an empty vase.
>Eat porridge.
Which bowl?
>take all
You eat porridge of varying consistencies and are replete.
Small bowl taken
Medium bowl taken.
Large bowl taken.
Vase taken.
Table is too big to move.
You are tired. It is getting dark.
>up
Can't go that way.
>Exam me
You are in your twenties. You wear nothing worth mentioning. You are carrying a shiny thing, three bowls, a vase, a flyer and an envelope.
You are tired. You are also cold.
>help
I'd find somewhere warm to sleep if I were you.
>climb stairs
I don't see one here

>look
You are in the kitchen. There is a table, which is now devoid of bowls and vase.
To the right is a hallway.

You are tired, cold and likely to suffer from indegestion given the amount of porridge you have consumed.

>right
You are in the hallway. To the left is the kitchen, to the right is the lounge. Behind you, it is growing dark rapidly. The grass is as tall as you are.

You are tired and cold, and can feel heartburn coming on. You yawn. You drop the vase. It shatters. Clumsy oaf.

>right
You are in the lounge. The only furnishings are three chairs, small, medium and large.

>sit in small chair
Whoever you vote for.

Even in your shrunken state, you are far too heavy for that chair. It shatters, depositing you on the floor. The compression of your digestive tract means the the fermenting porridge is projected the way it entered.
>look
Large chair, medium chair, splinters of wood, splinters of glass, pool of vomit.
>search medium chair.
This an old-fashioned wooden chair known as a carver. You find nothing.
>search large chair
This is a comfortable armchair. You grope down the back and find a small plastic case with buttons on it. There is also a flick knife as once used by teddy boys and a note entitled Translation for non-Brits. Remote control, knife, note.
>take remote
Taken.
>take knife
Taken
>exam remote
There are four buttons, red, green, blue and yellow.
>push red button
Tut-tut. red is for danger, you've been too conditioned by TV interactivity.
The front of the house slams shut.
>push red
It's jammed
>help
Well, you might as well try the other buttons now.
>push blue
The chair extends providing a foot rest. Unfortunately you are standing in the way and are deposited in the chair, hitting your nose against the back cushion.
>push green
The back descends so the chair has been converted into a bed.
You are tired, you are cold, it is now very dark.
>Sleep
ZZZ
>look
You are lying in a sort of bed. You are cold. You are carrying three bowls, a knife, a remote control, a flyer, an envelope, a shiny thing.
.help
There's one button you haven't pushed yet.
>push yellow
There is a roar and generator springs to life and the room is flooded with lightt. Just as well with all this debris on the floor
>exam floor
It's littered with splinters of glass and wood. You're lucky you haven't cut your feet already.
The acidic pool of vomit is eating its way through the florboards.
