Fair enough. I'm the same, and my char said the same sort of thing. I could now go totally off topic about a poem I wrote, The Elves and the Shoemaker, which didn't involve any little pointy-eared people, but blue suede shoes... but that's a leap too far even for me.
I'll only say: If the pluralof crisis is crises, what's the singular of elves?
