The Cantr World is pretty boring now days
Now days there is no real threat against a nation, no real fear, no powerful overwhelming nations- only small groups and tribes, the occasional thief, the rare newspawn-thief, the occasional murderer, and the light law breaker (ie taking some food off the ground when you're not supposed to).
Has anyone else noticed this? It really sucks.
I'm guessing it's because heaps of hopeless players have all their characters with a mindset of 'good', of preset morals (ie it's wrong to kill) which I find completely ridiculous and stupid.
For example, one of my characters in the wilderness (spawned off some TBR) who was left to fend for himself, by himself, for many years, does not understand morals even the slightest. When some K-Islander explorers found him, they could not understand him. He thought it was normal to kill people if they bugged you, just a passive thing. To steal, what was stealing anyway? And as for preserving low-population animals... who cared? In that world, it was too dangerous to keep them alive anyways.
Just wanted other people's opinions on the matter..

To add to this..
In Cantr, morals should be based off your environment. Your 'goodness' or 'evilness' should also be based off this.. and keep in mind, good/evil is subjective. This is why I have such difficulty in recruiting other characters to join any of my Guardianships, Empires, Tribes, Piracy groups, etcetera, because they already know what is 'good' and what is 'evil', and steer clear of the evil.
To some avail there were many newspawns under the regime of Felin Ginger who spawned with a 'clean mind'. They mostly saw what Felin did as normal, ie dragging people away to kill them for their items. They knew no better. However, the downside is, when Felin's empire was crushed in seconds by the almighty force from the north, the characters.. and their players... crumbled in fear of death and reverted to apologies and suddenly realising how evil she was and knowing better etcetera.
In other instances, it is difficult to recruit characters who are blindly naive to doing 'evil'. Even if you give the best RP reason, they won't join you. For example, if you tell them that the God which they have prayed to for so long, will smite them unless they do something, the character (or mainly the player) still won't do anything.
Another character of mine out in the wilderness with a fairly decent sized group setting up a colony also has this attitude of 'freedom of the spirit', not bound by morals, or by subjective OOC views of good/evil. In fact the character was passively considering killing another member of their group just because they were a nusiance. I get this horrible worry that the other character who is involved heavily in the organisation of this small colony, also has mainstream Good morals, even though we all spawned in the place together without laws etc.
I can understand older characters emphasising these morals upon us, because they have already been influenced into believing and upholding them. However, as for the under-25's and newspawns, I really don't want to see "Hey you can't drag that man into that locked room for no reason!"
Because I'll say back, why the hell not?

Personally I've always wanted to see an empire that actually lasts form in cantr. Maybe this time of peace can make that happen. Though, personally I think your wrong, I think there is plenty chaos in cantr now. And even if your right, this idea of yours that people should be more willing to kill or get into that sort of way of thinking really is not anymore realistic then the newspawns with good morals. Because those who inspire this killing, well where do they get their ideas? It is all hypocritical. You yourself, N-aldwitch, don't seem to follow your own idea of how cantr should be.

You're definitely right in one aspect. This preset mindset is irritating and it's very common and clearly stemming from OG influences, actually some of the blame is on myself, it's often hard to roleplay, my mood can be happy and impatient one day or irritable and curt another, or bored with the other chars and then several of my chars might reflect said mood that day, and in lots of locations there is little going on to form roleplay on.

You have to look at from the character's point of view: What character wants his things taken from him by force or theft? Who wants to be murdered? In almost any society of people no matter the continent or nation there are laws against these things because it's destructive to any society. Most people in Cantr just like Earth probably don't want to be theives and murderers. Granted I do know of some though believe me, one of my characters has already been a victim of the savages.

I agree completely, N-Aldwitch. Cantr would work a lot better if all players spwned their characters with a "clean mind", as you say, and based their personality around the environment they are born in.
That's not saying everyone should think killing is perfectly normal... But even when someone isn't naturaly violent, what would be stopping them from going overseas or to desolate ares to "hunt"? It's too bad we can't see more of this in the game.
I had a character try to start a slave trade, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't keep his human cargo awake. And, of course, he couldn not find a market for it. The funny thing is, 90% of all emplyees within the game are 100% free labour. They just haven't figured it out yet.

We don't even see laws about restricting one's freedom that often, ie 'No slavery in this town!'. So I don't know where characters get off thinking slavery is wrong.
Here is the boiled down problem:
Question: Would you rather be hurt or hurt someone else? (a question raised in my philosophy class)
Natural logic: Hurt someone else
Artificial logic: Be hurt
In these cases, hurting someone else is what Dyl did to his slaves. Good! What the non-buyers did, Artificially, is say no and lose potential profit, thus hurting themselves.
All Cantrians should spawn with one thing in mind: Themselves.

I still have an Evil Character very much alive and with plans to stir some things up again. BUT
I am waiting until the Lag thing gets better again. It would really stink to start an attack I have in mind only to have the Lag kick me off and just keep getting the Page unavailble screen. when I cant get my character back out of the open to protection. or drag someone off with me.
When things get back to working smoothly again I for one will be able to make things more exciting for a few atleast.

Without delving into any in-character sensitive information, not ALL of the Cantr world is boring. I've seen several fights and wars brewing up, though I'd love to see more conflict...
I agree with the rest of your post, though, about morals and beliefs. Keep your RL morals and beliefs out of the game, please (this includes sexism, homophobia and taboos against nudity).

False logic, of course.
The best answer for both sides, which doesn't need any high-falutin' intellect to arrive at, (and that should some up most Cantrians in their primitive society,) is neither to hurt nor be hurt.

It's because the days of 3 man kill squads are done and over with... If one wants to really attack a town, he'll need a good dozen or so men now... And thats hard to come by.
And I agree, too many people are automaticly good. But then on the same tone, back when I first joined 90% of my characters were evil. Thats what I really like about organisations like the stone knights. They don't care if what they do is bad or wrong, as long as they stand together, everything is tip top.
But I agree. Not enough evil in cantr.
