Boy, I can't wait for weather to be implemented...

Postby Leo Luncid » Mon May 14, 2007 12:02 am

Just imagine...

From the beginning, the world of Cantr has never been tainted from the skys above. The sun has always been shining down upon it, always showing where the projects, where your note is, what you are doing. It has become a setting taken for granted for those living in that world, and no matter what conflict has come upon you, you can simply rise your head up for a sight of peace.

Changes of weather will be to them, so how do you think they will react to the falling waters, the whispers of the winds, or the roaring lights of thunder?

Stick true to your character and his/her history, and most likely you may have to force yourself to have your character to cower in the buildings, recording the "end of days," just like the rest.

At least that's what I think. More fun than how one may react to any other new implementation.

Update: In case you're reading the first page, here's my recent post to clarify.
Leo Luncid wrote:Even if there is a slightest change in weather, any Cantrian would notice. Think about it. They've been used to the assumed sunny weather for decades, and if even they feel a stronger breeze in the air, chances are they would overreact to it. It's reasonable enough since no other Cantrian ever witnessed such a phenomenon.

That's the whole point I had in mind when creating this thread. It wasn't intended to debate whether it should be implemented or not, how should it implemented, the factors, ect. It's here to simply discuss how people would roleplay their characters when weather comes. Even if weather is never to be implemented, I for one would like to know your opinion.

Seriously, would you have your character panic screaming the end of the world when he/she saw the darkening clouds at first sight? I certainly would.

Yay, weather! A topic to talk about even in the most boring town. The average amount of smalltalk per character will at least double. Can't wait to see it implemented.

But will it be another excuse for nerfing? More repairs due to gales, crop collection and growth hindered by rain and snow, tiredness increased and sunstroke introduced all to slow things down.
Boats blown off-course and damaged by storms. Road vehicles stranded/damaged by ice and snow.
What are the advantages to balance all the downside?

I'm not sure the new weather should change all of that. Certain things from that list, but if all of that is implemented, then it will mess things up just like the complication of manufacturing.

rain improves crop growth, sunshine allows things to be gathered more efficiently, wind can speed up ships, electricity from lightening

those could all be advantages to weather

Not to be negative or to stir up anything while freshly being back, but I fail to see how weather is needed in game. There's currently enough hardships on my characters to do list, I honestly don't see how one more is going to help.

It may not be as much of an issue for older, more well established people in the game, but for a new toon being stranded in a blizzard with no food because "It's snowing so hard that my character can't see three feet ahead of him" to harvest some carrots or what not.

Not to mention trips between towns slowing travelers to a halt to "take shelter from a storm" when most trips as I remember took precise planning on food with little room for error...

I just don't see how this implementation would help.

If there was free roaming and portable shelters then people could stop on the road to set up camp, do some hunting, cook their food and sleep in tents to recover strength.

Well then lets hope they implement free roaming before they put weather in. Nice to see you again Seko :)

I think electricity would be too hard to implement. I also don't see how it is needed at the moment. None of those things affect anything in game right now. Carrots are gathered at the same rate no matter what, no matter where. Ships travel at a set rate, wind can also slow them down drastically.

It seems to do more harm than good.

Heh, I'm up for a few storms..

I have a funny feeling that a certain one of my charries when a storm first comes is going to claim it is his doing :D
The freedom to be completely insane, also to lose the game.

I think seafaring is far too easy nowadays. Some storms might balance it out some. Then again make it too hard and we'll have a lot of angry people! Since so many are sailing...

Just a simple bit of weather to make many places cool/cold/freezing would be good - so that you can gradually get "damage" by avoiding wearing clothes. Would give some use to clothes then...

If clothing gets function it should also get weight. I agree with those who think it's too early for weather, and can point to the implementation of disease as a cautionary example. In no sense did this hardship foster cooperation, and many players are repeatedly angered by it.
