I don't hate Pie, and there seem to be many players who can't use apostrophes, eg im instead of I'm. But I live with it. The lack of punctuation is worse.

If there's a word that your text-to-speech is stuffing up, are you able to squint and try and decipher it? or do you just have to live with the fact that you'll never understand what the noob was talking about.

"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

Congratulations on the dog, Tiddy. I hope it all goes well. Personally I'm more of a cat person myself but then they have never made great guide animals, I think it's because their attitude is "if you get run down it's your problem not mine".

Thanks for the ProgD praise as well, it's pleasing to know we are making the game as accessible as possible.

N-altwich: I can spell out a word letter by letter. If it's a genuine word, and is likely to appear again I can tell Jaws, my screen reader, how it ought to be pronounced, otherwise just work out what's meant for myself.
Chris: *spam alert* There are some CDs out, on behalf of the British Computer Association of the Blind, (BCAB) of funny poems written by Les Barker and performed by a collection of Brit Celebs, entitled "Guide Cats For The Blind", the title track of the first package, which ties in exactly with what you said.

Well, after 4 weeks of training, many mistakes on my part and that of the dog, I've qualified as owner of guide dog Barber.
We're very lucky to have made it, as the dog is quite an escape artist, got out of our garden twice, once over a wall, once under a fence and couldn't get back. The second time I called out the Guide Dog Trainer to find him. He broke his way through the fence, reappearing with dripping wet dog.
"You nearly had a dead dog, there We don't spend 30,000 pounds ($60,000) training dogs to end up in swimming pools unable to get out."
So here we are. Yesterday I signed the papers and paid for the mutt - 50 pence ($1)... How's that for depreciation, $60k to $1 in a week.
So now we can go out alone without trainer lurking in the background keeping an eye on us.
(He'll still come out for a while to sort out problems, of course, but at last I gotta dog!

I'll put a full account and picture of the mongrel on my web site in due course.
*very happy*

Congrats! Sounds like your guide dog needs a guide to watch over him.

I figured it was expensive to train those dogs, but had no idea it was that high! Quite the bargain if he only cost you 50 pence. :)

Tiddy. I would imagine from your last
post that this dog is a male. Get him neutered.
If I am wrong and the dog is female. Get her spayed.
I would think that this has already been done. If not, do it.

Domesticated animals once detached of their
reproductive organs tend to run off less.

I have had animals around all my life and
now have 10 cats. I really hate the fuckers.
Anyhow, after all my time around; cats, dogs, ferrets etc.
I can say once they are "fixed" they usually
will not run away as much, are easier to handle and tend to live longer.

Snip it's nuts.

And hell last I saw $1.8 to the pound. When the hell did the pound go to $1.99?
