Playing characters of the opposite sex?

Postby Racetyme » Tue May 08, 2007 4:08 am

I try to keep my balance of characters about even, in the ratio of men to women. I recently had one of my female characters involved in an "intimate" situation (clean enough for you?). And I couldn't help but feel a little odd. I'm also sure it was not the best rp of my life. Anybody else had similar experiences?

I am far more interested in people's reactions to rping sex with characters of the opposite sex.

It's happened to me once. It is difficult to know how the char's mind should work in these situations, I admit, and can only hope I'm not doing too bad a job.
I think the easiest way to play it is go to extremes, either a rampant nympho/sex maniac or totally frigid... but that doesn't make for very realistic play, I guess.

I ended up with a crazy nympho, so I guess it might work out. Thanks for the advice though.

I remember one time when my character was rather intrusively devouring a woman's body with his eyes, the woman said OOC something like "I am a man, you idiot!" ...So? If you choose to play a female character then you must accept that others will see her as a woman, and that there are people in the world who might feel lust towards strangers and maybe feel like raping them. It doesn't mean you'd have to give into people hitting on you or even trying to abuse you, you can fight back or you can curl up on a ball and start crying. But trying to defend yourself with an OOC excuse is very poor play.

I play about half and half men and women and they all would react to sexual advances in some ingamely way. Many are not sexually active and some have never even discovered their sexuality but I would be ready to play some sort of an encounter with any one of them. Some just happen to be of the curl-up-on-a-ball-and-get-a-lifelong-trauma type.

Lately only one of my characters has been sexually active, with a woman that is played by a young man and I'm perfectly ok with that.

Yeah... I wondered why I have had trouble getting my female charries sexually active. I play a better male than I do a female sexually. I haven't had any of my female charries dated yet... Oh, wait there was one. But only was hit on because she was in power, except for when the other group power leader stole her heart. ;)

The majority of my chars aren't really driven to "intimacy". The few that are, haven't had much luck yet. lol My only char in a relationship at the moment is opposite my gender, and it was quite unexpected that he fell in love. I'd say none of my female chars are the flirty type, a couple of my male chars are occasionally. Anyway, short answer - I don't mind rping sex with either gender char, though it might be bad rping on my part. :?

I'll add another twist to the question... Would you play a gay char in an intimate situation? (surprise question coming from me, I know :P )

I think one of my female chars is gay, possibly bi. She's more gruff toward men, but I could see her getting into a one night stand with a guy. And I think one of my males may eventually hook up with a guy - his (male) friend has made some comments that have me wondering what's going to happen between the two of them.

It's like a big green soap opera!

Many of my characters are bi on some level. A couple have only had lesbian sex but have still been open for the thought of sleeping with a guy as well. I think lesbians are pretty common in Cantr but gays are more rare (male gay I mean). Any thoughts why?

Because men are more afraid to play a gay man, because they are afraid that would make them gay, but have no aversion to playing a lesbian. I have one gay man, but no luck for him as of yet. I'm sure it will be spectacular when it happens though.

What confuses me if I think about it too much is this: a female player (me, for example) playing a male charrie who is intimate with a female charrie played by a male player...

I'm currently having lesbian sex with another man. I'll live.

I laughed when I saw this topic. It reminded me of General Henry and Pisa (two characters that are no more). Henry was my first male relationship and I have to admit I was afraid to make a move. I was afraid that the player of Pisa roleplayed relationships with guys and it would be much better than I can pull off. Because of this Henry was a very serious worker. He payed a lot of attention to his girl, but the affection was very limited. I think because of this Pisa eventually left Henry. He kinda went mad afterwards, but on the forum the player (who left Henry for another guy...obviously this guy was played by a male...not saying it was purposely, but that really hurt my ego either way lol) told me that Henry was not man enough for her  Well, to make an already long story short that was my last relationship with a male character. I was to embarrassed and to afraid to ever try again.

On another note

I think it is this way because male gays are not accepted in the real world as much as female gays. I honestly believe if there ever were to be a male with male relationship in Cantr one, if not both, of these players will be female.

I would play a gay man, but frankly I'm never fully at home with playing male characters. They're harder to detach me from and let them be totally self evolving with my D20 method of weighted decision making.

Also on the main topic, my only character at the minute probably would have sex, with either sex, but she's far more interested in her rabbits than other humans.

I've seen one gay couple in Cantr (Rupert and Elam Phillippe), they visited Kiii some years back and may have had some influence on my character coming out of the closet. No idea of who they're played by.

And what about the trio of Zuzi then, since Serendipity died, does that make Trent and Arnie a gay couple?
