Galvinization
It's often been said that a lot of the non-iron based metals are too useless, but a lot of them have stayed that way b/c you can't just randomly replace a lot of things that need iron with other metals w/o screwing with the economies, so how about adding galvinization or plateing for iron and steel tools and weapons with zinc, chromium, and/or nickel to slow down thier rate of decay. Perhaps wooden tools and weapons could also be laminated with resin or bees wax for the same effect.

This could be done pretty easily... it would be a new item for eveything that we want galvanized/re-enforced... but we'd basically be limited to one type of coating per item so as to avoid making three identical items.
That is, unless we want to go for an extra step to convert the miscellaneous metals into a new resource...
I'm honestly not really sure weather or not I'm supporting the idea, as decay rates have already been dropped drastically... but it is plausable.

That would be one of those "negative" changes we all love so much... still... come to think of it... I feel like I never have to repair anything these days, even with my tool-whordes ()... so if without it they were a little worse off, and with it they're better off... it could help value useless mats without horribly detrimenting very many people.

Actually I was thinging about the identical tools, and maybe it could just be a taged on value to what exists kind of like the level of decay, that way, instead of being an <old> <steel>, it would become an <old><galvanized> <steel>. Or and <old> <> <steel> if it has not been in any way preserved. Also, galvinization is technically a method and not nessissarly a zinc coating like it normally reffers to, so for terms of semantics, we could use it in game to reffer to any preservitive metal coating assuming that all coatings should work about equally well, then coatings for wood or bone such as wax or resin could generically be called <laminated>.
Ideally I think that if this is emplimented it should either make tools not degrade over time, leaving on only wair based decay, or current decay rates should be slightly higher(~ 120-140% current rate), and laminated tools should degrade slower(~ 50% - 25% current rate). This way without them, people without these resources won't go back into always repairing tools, but will have enough incentive to upgrade what they have if they can.
... and yes, Zinc can form toxic gases when vapourized... that's actually how I got the idea when my scuplture teacher chewed someone out for trying to weld galvanized steel, but since most tools that wouldn't be an issue for, I think we can ignore that little fact.

Thing is, we don't have "tags" that we put on things to modify them... they're all new items... the "stone hammer" is a seperate entry from the "hammer"... so unless ProgD wanted to do something drastic, it would mean adding Several new items, gather rates, and processes... (mind you, if they scriped something to do it, I wouldn't mind too much, so long as all the galvinization were thrown onto one currently non-existant machine)
