I've spawned one religious person... who's been partially integrated with the Church of the Mother... but nothing from him's made it back to Zuzi yet... I think... Also he met an active member of the Church of the Unamed ones... so it's still alive. On the other hand I also have a charrie that's completely skeptical of religion and will attempt to discredit anyone who preaches in his presence.

The reason Cantr cultures and traditions haven't survived much is because everyone wants to start their own new thing. It's just the way it usualy goes. It's fun starting things from scratch, but it just doesn't go well in most cases. A leader will die, there will be an era of dissaray, and then someone new will take charge, rewrite the laws, rename the "group", and boom, a whole age will be forgotten due to character's short lifespans.

What I love is when people spawn in a region with a religious belief of some sort, and will naturaly apply that religion/culture to their character somewhere within the first year of their life.

I had a character in the past that was into tradition. He settled down in a place with a Factional group and a religion. He didn't know too too much about the faction, but he read bits of the religion's books. When he came back from a long trade run, everyone he knew was dead and gone,a nd the town was basicaly empty. He rebuilt the town, basing it around that same old faction, and it was quite a success. He was a firm believer in the religion, but he didn't treat it like a group you had to be a "member" of. He just believed in it, even though nobody else seemed to take any notice of the religion.

I have another that has fully joined a religion and is undergoing a training/learning process which is interesting. Not many groups have active training sessions. A third character of mine believes in the same religion, but isn't a "member" of it, and isn't exactly devout either.

I had a couple others that tried to make religions, but failed. One was particularily fun. He was attacked when spawned for "stealing" small bones  The blood got in his eyes, and as he looked up he saw the sun through the red, and thought he saw the shape of a hand. It disturbed him so much, that he believed the red hand to be from some sort of god. He would stay indoors, because he thought the darkness was the only place he was safe from the Gods judgement. He idolized and feared the god at the same time, and it was great. OOCly I thought it would be interesting to have a darker religion existing in a place where the roads are long and the population small, a religion where it was promoted to go indoors, and to keep outspoken words to a minimum while outside. But, of course, he was deemed a psychopath by newspawns, and it failed. But it was still fun.

Interesting story ... but that's ridiculous, it's CRB, ask them; What's a psychopath? Define this label, or tag. The label (or tag) cannot exist without other labels so they will fail defining it, well probably... And you're not a psychopath, you're devine, or semi-devine.

You bet it's CRB, but there's no stopping it. Some people, especialy new players to the game, have natural instincts and values they automaticaly fall back on. You just have to live with it, until the players get more experienced and creative, I guess. Cantr is a big change for the majority of online-gamers.

Anyways, I was just sort of dissapointing that the char had good reason to believe in this stuff, and the situation as a whole was as perfect and natural as it can get, but it failed none-the-less. Now I have to go play Oblivion on my 360 and do Deadric Shrine quests with NPCs to get that dark, cult-ish experience. It's sad when NPC's are more fun than people, sometimes. ;)

Nah, you just need to play the right kind of religious charrie... mine had quite a bit of luck being the victim of his gods... well, at least in the sense that he got a little sympathy and thus nourishment form others... if you're just as upset about your gods as everyone else is, then you seem more human.
