Unprofessionalism of the Cantr Staff - in regards to Buddyha

Postby N-Aldwitch » Sun Apr 08, 2007 2:36 pm

There is a level of professionalism but it just feels false.

Just from my perspective, regardless of what buddyhall actually did, you are treating him very disrespectfully and definitely not treating him fairly.
You constantly lock his posts and stop him from voicing his opinion, you pick on him and use excuses not to deal with him.

Now it's gotten to the point of frustrating me, and making me feel empathy for him.

Posts such as these: "Punctuation please. You're hurting my eyes." that have NO relevancy to the situation just add to my confusion and frustration.

I know you yourselves are frustrated with buddyhall, but you have to learn that there are pricks in life, and it's better to not be one towards him. Not that I'm a christian (at all), but turn the other cheek - that'll show him. Be nice to him. That'll really confuse and mess him up, if, of course, that is your intent. (which- sorry - it appears to be.)

It just seems you're taking your sweet time to sort his case out. (you're as in the entire staff related to the matter).
It may be a legitimate delay, but if it isn't, it honestly is not fair.

Anyway, I know it's close to out of line for me to say this, but I've tried to remain civil and neutral on the matter..

And also, please don't make a smart alec response to this post, then lock it, like you unprofessionally have done to buddyhall so many countless times..

I too, don't know what the problem was, but I haven't had that impression. And I'm sure it wasn't one of the staff, (who by definition are not professionals,) who made that remark about punctuation, unless I'm much mistaken.
From what I've seen they have wanted to keep many things confidential between him and them, thus not messing up the forums.
He may well have a grievance about the time things take, but I'm sure they are doing their best, and could do with more help themselves.
I only wish I had the time and skills to join the staff.

Yeah it was Dee who said that (though I'm sure many people share that request). I think CD wants to keep the forums clear of trolling but locking and hiding active topics is only going to lead into new ones being made. It was different when the guy was starting several topics in GenSupport, they left one open for him to rant in, but then the conversation died so it was locked. Now there have been several one post topics that were locked and moved by Anti. If buddyhall is not banned from the forums then CD shouldn't stop him from posting as long as obscenities are not included. But he is banned from irc and maybe he doesn't realize that because he comes in through different host adresses and cannot be technically blocked unless a whole service provider is blocked, which would stop some other people from chatting as well. There really isn't anything to sort out, he's banned for imitating people, calling people names and being a general jackass. Plus he keeps trying to enter the channel although he has been said several times that he is not allowed to until he is sent a message saying the ban has been lifted. And that message isn't going to come if he keeps calling a person using a four letter word that refers to female genitalia.

N-Aldwitch you have no idea what you are talking about. Blazin's behaviour in the forum may have been obnoxious but it's nothing to the harrassment he's given people in the irc channel. He gave me a headache, called me a c***, stole my nick, and I'm just as a bystander. The staff who've dealt with him have done so admirably. Generously, imo.

My own impression is that the staff have been very patient, perhaps even too much so. I must also point out that I've never been one to go overboard on things like typos, grammar and spelling. I prefer a mix of people here and if someone looks good on the strategy or business side I often resented their being picked on for merely sounding perhaps a bit "barbaric" by some standards. One needs a balance and games that get too "arty farty" tend to die. However, even I have my limits. The other side of the story is first-time visitors to the forum reading his threads first...and then what conclusion would they draw? No, in this case he's not worth it and should be discouraged. That's my opinion.

(Also I tend to stop breathing while reading his posts, which might be dangerous).

I am as well, man. He stole my nick in chat and was saying obscene things in chat...Things I would never say. And I haven't even talked to the guy...

I almost hate to fuel this fire... For people who don't get paid to deal with all the BS, I think the staff have handled this situation fairly well. Sure, they are volunteers and can quit if they can't "deal with it", but no one deserves the harassment that blazin has been doing. Not to mention his attempts to muddy the waters by claiming he has no idea what's going on and lying about the choice of words he uses. I've been in irc when he was told he couldn't come back yet and instead of being mature about it, he cussed people out for booting him. That typically increases the time one is banned from something, so maybe that's why it appears his 'case' is being taken care of slowly.

People in the IRC have took alot of BS from him. I'm not sure what the situation in the forums are but in IRC he's impersonated many people. He's even impersonated me... and pm'ed me as "commie" while my nick was Tork. :?

Edited for bad grammar. >.<

We have tried beyond trying. It takes me a long time to run out of patience. Constant verbal abuse and false apologies and continual bad behaviour will quickly wear anyone out. The only posts locked and moved are ones that are gone towards flaming or that should be resolved in private.

Now it's gotten to the point of frustrating me, and making me feel empathy for him.

Posts such as these: "Punctuation please. You're hurting my eyes." that have NO relevancy to the situation just add to my confusion and frustration.

Not staff. Dee said it, and she's not on staff. And if you have to consistantly read insults in such writing, it gets old.

I know you yourselves are frustrated with buddyhall, but you have to learn that there are pricks in life, and it's better to not be one towards him. You have no idea what he's been putting us, and most of the IRC through, in the past couple of months.

It just seems you're taking your sweet time to sort his case out. (you're as in the entire staff related to the matter).
It may be a legitimate delay, but if it isn't, it honestly is not fair.

No, we have not taken our sweet time. We figured it out, we told him the consequences, and he doesn't like them, so he is trying to destroy our credibility on the forums. If he'd dealt with the consequences of his initial offense, then he'd have only been banned for like two weeks from the IRC and there'd be none of this now. That was the state of things before he started calling people lewd names and impersonating innocent bystanders because he didn't get his way, instant gratification for a false apology.

Anyway, I know it's close to out of line for me to say this, but I've tried to remain civil and neutral on the matter..

And also, please don't make a smart alec response to this post, then lock it, like you unprofessionally have done to buddyhall so many countless times..

Like I said, the only posts locked and removed were ones on the track towards flaming or getting people involved that have nothing to do with it, such as yourself.

So please, unless you know how much he's done (which he conveniently denies it all, though there are many witnesses), and have seen the two page thread of reports on him, don't believe he needs the pity that he so desperately is trying to glean from people that have no idea of what's been going on.

That's all I have to say on the issue. I'll let others think and say what they will. I'm too tired of it all.

"N"... I personally think everyone handled the issue around buddyhall with patience and diplomacy - and with even a bit of humor thrown in to lighten the situation. buddyhall pushed and pushed and pushed everyone's buttons to do nothing but create turmoil.

I really question why he might be ever allowed to participate in Cantr II. But it was not for me to determine and I quietly accept that... until you stick this post up!!! Now I find I cannot sit by an let you make negative remarks about the handling of the situation...

*.......* You can put in your own comments between the asterisks about what I am thinking about you right now. I just hope you can pull your head out long enough to consider that nobody gets paid to be abused by a player like buddyhall... and it adds nothing to the enjoyment of the game to have him or you start this kind of whine.

If I could find /ignore in the Forum setup you know who would be on the top of my list.

Wow...I may not have been active in IRC or the forums for quite some time but there is no way in hell that you can say that the he was treated unfairly. I did a quick search on some of his recent posts (I was bored and after reading this thought it would be interesting) and saw nothing but respect and attentive responses given to him by the people representing their departments. Just because his individual case wasn't handled in the timely matter he would have liked, he decided to push and complain some more. If the departments were ignoring him and his requests, why would they inform him that they were working on it and so on.
Come on, this is a free game, you shouldn't expect top level support from a group of people that have personal lives, as well as jobs(I'm assuming) and other things to take up their time. From what I have seen, their support exceeds that of some products that are paid for.

The bottom line is that Buddyhall is an ass. I read in one of his posts that his ISP cant be blocked since it may interfere with others that use the site, well maybe you can just contact his ISP via email and explain that he is harassing people on the site and to maybe to just exclude him or whatever. Its just a suggestion and maybe it would help.

I completely support the staff on this issue. I think they have been more than fair and patient with this idiot. Much more than his juvenile behavior deserves. They are being more professional than most professionals would be.

I don't even go on IRC and I find buddyhall disruptive and bad for the morale of the players. I can only imagine what horrors he is creating in game.
