This is not true. This is the statistic that abstinance advocates use to try to keep people from having intercourse out of fear of pregnancy and STDs. Quality condoms, used properly, very rarely do any of these things. I'll try to find the actual stats later.

*shrugs* Make it one in a hundred. But please note, that I was stipulating that the condom was used absolutely correctly in 9 out of 10 cases -- unlikely in any event.

The larger point was simply that, even with good quality precautions used absolutely correctly, pregnancy is still a possibility. And I don't promote abstinence -- far from it (see earlier post). But I do promote being realistic about the relationship between sex and procreation, and about nature's ability to overcome odds.

Another example. Did you know that vasectomies are only 98% effective? Make an incision, go in, sever the tubes, remove a piece, cauterize both ends, and still 1 time in 50 the body will find a way to circumvent this procedure.

Have sex. Have lots of it. Use birth control. Be aware of the potential consequences nonetheless.

Let's say 1 in every 100 condoms, but otherwise use all the same numbers I used above. Meaning using a condom and the pill, together, 100% correctly, would result in a pregnancy 1 in every 140,285 times. Pretty rare.

But then say 25,000,000 fertile women have sex once a week for a year, using these precautions. It would still result in 9,295 pregnancies.

A ridiculously small number from a social standpoint, but tell that to those 9,295 women.

Why do people buy lottery tickets (with odds much worse than these, I might add)? Because they know that however remote, there's a tiny chance they might win.

Do what you will to prevent it, and I wish you luck. But no matter what you do, have sex, and there's a tiny chance that you will achieve its evolutionary purpose, willingly or no. And tiny as the chance is, it's not as unlikely as winning the lottery would be.

I don't promote abstinence. I promote anti-abstinence. But I don't promote deluding yourself either.

I'm saving myself for marriage.

It's a religious thing.

Deal with it.

Not just religious. I have other reasons too. But religion is a big one.

It's not the condoms failing, it's people not using them properly.

Yet this is used by pro-abstinence types to argue condoms are uselsss and teach (preach) abstinence, when, surely, the answer is to teach proper condom use.

Aw damn. You're breaking my heart, here!

But for real, good on you.

If you do not mind my asking, what are other reasons? How does your religion figure into equation? I'm just asking out of curiosity. I think that's really cool, though.

Pretty much I know I'm too young for anything like that. And I'd stop reading now if you don't like to hear teenager's opinions.

Religiously...I'm a Christian. I don't think that if you do have premarital sex that you'll go to hell or anything like that...I just on a personal level believe that waiting for marriage shows that you respect your future spouse enough to wait. And the bible supports me in abstaining, so how can it hurt?

Probably the second biggest reason I choose to wait: I know I couldn't handle it if I had sex with someone and then they left me. Just couldn't do it. Even though marriages don't necessarily mean forever anymore...it's a form of commitment.

Third: I'd like to keep what's left of my innocence for a while. I think everyone's trying to grow up too quickly. While most of my friends are worrying about what they do with their boyfriends...I can kick back and enjoy a book. I've never even kissed a boy. So I still get adrenaline rushes from just getting a smile from my crush. My friends...they need more than that to get a rush. I like where I'm at.

Last: I've got the rest of my life for that kind of thing. No point in rushing it.

Wow. That's amazing. There's really, honest to God, nothing I can say too that.

There's not enough women like you out there. You've really got it together.

I'm sure you'll make a wonderful wife someday.

Love the new picture, by the way.

Go you, HoH!!!! :D
Awkward: Having your phone go off full volume during a funeral.

Even more awkward: Your ringtone being "I Will Survive"

The most awkward: Coming back after a 10+ year hiatus and swearing I'd never come back.

Pie, I assume you meant venial sins... which not all sins are BTW... oh, and just because you could forgive me if I punched you in the face... yeah... that's a kindof bad stance to take... and I'm a heathen.

Just because someone forgive you doesn't mean they're not going to stomp you. You have to think realistically here.
