Usually When I go on a long sailing trip I'll have a day or two that I don't log in and then I will be off coarse by a little bit. I noticed that you can set how long you sail but then you loose time when sailing. It would be nice to be able to set multiple directions and hours so people can chart an entire coarse and not have to steer at all. People could also make very simple navigation charts to help others sail to new lands and such too.

How about sailing a trajectory that is an arc instead of a straight line? That would be cool. If you did it for too long then you would start going around in a circle, but it would be natural if the boat was leaning one way or another more or less, so all paths would be non-linear. In order to go straight, you would have to fix the course every once in a while. But no idea how this could be programmed. Or actually there is, the changing factor would be the radius of the circle of which arc you are on, but this couldn't be shown to users. And for straight lines it would be infinity.

Ok here is an added suggestion what if we could use a Sextant and a chronometer to tell us our Latitude and Longitude, This could make mapping more exciting and it could help when we find ourselves lost in the ocean or in a town we don't know the name of. This could be on land to map if the chronometer had two forms old chronometers where huge but a portable version could be made if having that technology isnt too crazy for cantr otherwise a van could have one installed and the coordinates of everytown could be charted to know its exact location in relation to another.
now if we had the ability to do this we could then go and do it in the water and know where we are If another tool where added "A brand new Log on a String" A character could drop this log into the water at the front of the boat and count how long it takes to get to the back to know the speed of their boat. With measurable global position and speed maps and navigation charts would be easy to make.
If what I mentioned earlier was implemented with these tools you could easily chart an entire coarse.
Latitude and longitude shouldnt be 2 hard to implement if the cantr map works on an X, and Y axis already, Speed should be easy too all the project has to do is display the following:
You see a man in his thirties measure the speed of the Unnamed Boat.
Unnamed Boat is traveling at __ knots.
The only thing I would think to be difficult would be having multiple inputs for traveling.

Longitude and latitude can already be measured with the sextant (it measures both), but relative to where you zero it. That is to prevent you from knowing OOC the direction between your characters.

And measuring speed has been suggested before. If you have anything to add in that respect, you should post in the following thread:

I actually like the arc sailing concept... but it's even simpler then you make it sound. Just add an extra number spot... then every tick, add that number (positive or negative?) to your current direction (wrapping 360 to 0 and vice versa). Not a true arc, but close enough of an approximation to make me happy.
