Oh... god yes. My character, a crazy dude (and a heck of an actor) made up some Rasez thing. Follow Rasez or be destroyed... I am a Priest of Rasez, follow me. Stuff like that. (he's not very imaginative) Some other tidbits, it lasted like an hour, so I didn't get far. He just wanted power.

My character? No... he wasn't trying to make a religion flourish, he went into houses and tried to look for things to steal. He made the religion as an excuse to steal. He didn't care about his religion, he just tried to get some power, and wealth. He's a basic criminal really, not somebody who wanted to make a region.

Thats exactly my point Cantrfreak, and when people see someone using religion as an excuse to do bad things, it makes it that much harder for a truly religious charrie to be succesful.

... Oh really, I'd really like to see it in game. My character is not a follower of the Order, so I might actually consider that religion for my character if it fits him. Something BIG is gonna happen there... just wait and watch.

Just by way of info... he's nowhere near Zuzi... but that religion still found him and took great intrest with all the things that go on with that charrie.
Oh... and now he sortof belives a mixture of both... managed to get his and the order's cosmology aligned... it's freaking crazy.

Nakranoth sorry but I didn't read a word you said, I keep getting distracted by that bunny. Too cute!
Anyway to get on topic I've had a couple of chars that tried to start religions, but it seems like you have to have to be pretty extreme to get any attention at all, and then it's usually the locking up and/or sabering kind.
As far as getting followers goes, the problem with that is the same one that town leaders have, only worse. It's hard to find anyone willing to put the good of a community over their chars personal goals (especially when they planned their personal goals all out before they even spawned..
)
It seems like everyone wants to run their own town, or be captain of their own ship, or be the owner of a business, or start their own religion, and about the only time they'll ever volunteer to help someone else is because they need to earn some weapons or tools, and then they'll take off as soon as they get what they need. most Cantrians are selfish bastards, it's like there's no such thing as loyalty and all they're ever interested in is what's in it for them.
At least most towns are capable to bribe people into doing work for them, with a lot of religions your only 'reward' for believing everything some random, likely crazy guy says is that you're told your char will go to heaven when they die, and of course the player knows they just get deleted or whatever so it's kind of hard to get excited about it. A person would have to be a hardcore RPer to be willing to devote their char's life to something that doesn't really benefit them, and if that's the case you run into the problem again, why play second fiddle to someone else when you've got cool ideas of your own and you could be the one in the spotlight?

It would be really nice to see an already successful town or bustling community look to a church to instill hard values to their people without the church/religion trying to run the town or take over the government. This is hard to set up. I always thought I might have my one town leader be a preacher after retiring, but I can't be both things at once. A supporter and figure who says, "If you don't believe in the church you're bad." and be the preacher at the same time. It just wouldn't work.
I hate people.

Huh, that's an interesting idea. A way to do it might be to not give the priest any actual power or anything, but just be as supportive as possible. Build the guy a church, hook him up with some nice robes and free food to give out to followers, let him preach a sermon in the middle of town whenever he wants and tell the usual religion-hating jerks they have to keep their mouths shut during it, stuff like that.

Well Marian, thats exactly why i like to play second fiddler. I understand how hard it is to start a religion (been goin at it for 15 years... got 2 followers, but one had a heart attack) So if given the chance, ill help someone in the same position out.
