I wish there could be a waiting time, that a ship couldn't be docked until it had been stationary for a certain amount of time. Currently if you manage to go right on top of it (and with undocking, all you need to do is pick the right direction) there's nothing stopping you, and it will be instantaneous. Then again if speed docking was disabled then it would be harder to catch pirates.
So basically, all boats should be dockable in some way, but some (like the darter) should keep an advantage of being somehow harder to catch, at least when they're moving.

Costs a bit of steel and can dock to anything? It fits one person and is like a shiny metal arrowhead shaped boat, you could launch them from your bigger ship to dock to anything else.. Anyone else for 'Steel Dockers'?
I'm suprised you don't see the hole in your logic.
What docks to the docker?

Other steel dockers, I guess. I can't remember the suggestion THAT well, it was months old..
At least that way it keeps the docking situation within the confines of the rich and more able leaders of towns rather than a pesky thief.

dinghy rescue
Let me pose my contribution like this:
How can I rescue a dinghy at sea whose driver has died?
PS I just posted this in the support forum and they told me to put it here. this is a much-needed implimentation!
PS2: i like the raft idea

Do not spoil the darters. If there is no special coding, if everything is just assigned some vessel it can be docked by or what it can dock to then darters will be screwed over. Since they're slower than a sloop that doesn't require steel, their only advantage is that they cannot be docked.

But the carrying capacity, and I'd argue the speed as well, of a darter is too great for a vessel that can't be docked to. Three armed people with onions are rendered by it nearly invincible, if their timing is good. There ought to be a rubber raft or some other docking craft that can't move fast enough nor fit enough weight to be useful for anything else. And that should be the only undockable one.
