Chars- everyone likes their own way?

Postby Missy » Mon Aug 25, 2003 7:36 pm

It has come to my attention that no matter how hard I try to put a personality to one of my characters it always ends up changing once i get them to a certain place in their life- usually a prominent place. LOL
Another words- I have ideas for what I would like them to be like- but they never end up that way!
(I guess I forgot to instill willpower in all of them lol)

However once I get them somewhere goood- (good in my opinion)- they do usually stay that way.

But I am tired of some of my chars personalities. Tired of trying to come up with one that noone has ever thought of before. (I do have an idea for one tho---hehhehehe)

I guess what I am asking is---What is it that strikes all of you guys' fancy? (GUYS as in people- not male beings) What kind of characters do you like to see?

Im most proud of my bi-polar character right now! ^_^ MWEEEE! And I wish to see differant personalities- so many drab people walking around. I mean its' possible that all chars in game have personalities and that they just haven't been revealed yet. But it's also hard to believe that their personalities would make them so quiet? (Yeah- i know not everyone has the time like I do ...lol)
And I openly admitt that I only have two half interesting characters at the moment!

I want to see something differant though! It just feels like I've seen all the personalities once before in game, including some of my own chars pesonalities!

~meah~ Just random thoughts and my usual ramble!

Some of my chars changed several times during their lives, and some may change again, I do however find it boring to run a politically influencal char for a very long time, but I round it out with the ones that aren't so stable. You just have to put your own twist on things to make them interesting.

In an old D&D book there is some tables on random personality generation that create some interesting combinations. I'm not sure if they kept that in the newer versions.

Some things would be hard to play like
"glutton" - In game you can only eat at eating time and you never gain weight.
"collector" - for someone to be an art collector someone else would have to make art. To be a collector of trowels they'd have to be different somehow.

There's a table like that for NPC's in the Dungeon Master's guide, and there's bound to be some thigns of interest in the hero builder's guide, although a lot of the stuff about history and education would be irrelevant to cantr

I wonder how homo-sexuals acted in medievil times? Anyone know? *Does some research* Most likely quiet due to fear of being shunned from society huh?
Well theres a first for everything in cantr. :) *Gets all excited and rubs hands together*

Darn, and here I thought I smiled at everyone with some meaning!

But there is also a differance in Cantr and Real life. Take into account- you can see things in real life even if a person doesn't wish to show them.

In cantr not everyone chooses to---let their character be described

But I guess it all works out in the end! When walking down the street in real life I may THINK someone is drab or exciting but it doesn't necessarily mean they are. Guess I'll have to look at all the characters even those who are quiet and start saying some of them look interesting even though they never speak a word or move an inch. :)

I try to have variation for my characters...but I rarely play extreme ones.

Frederick, the stuttering and shy man in Tircqi is probably the one that stands out the most. (Although he has been bust lately, building his house)

Some are arrogant, others are practical and silent...some are adventurous. But I don't think many of them stand out a lot.

I have a homosexual char who's been alive for 7 yrs. No other chars know that my char likes the same sex, 'cause no one bothers propositioning my char. My char is thinking about family now, so some of your chars may get a shock when a char of the same sex gets frisky. (several of my chars ar family oriented, so don't think you know who my homo char is : P )

One thing that I find is that, even if I have a defined personality for a character, if they're in a place where no one is really role-playing, it is difficult to let that personality come out. Especially when no one is even talking. So it kinda gets lost. Except for one guy who's a bit simple, back-woods kinda fella, but even with him, there's not alot to keep it going.

One of my favorite char's is Silly, in Drojf. Everyone takes care of Silly lol. (he's a bit slow - just learning to talk).

Not many others come to mind right now, well, except Tempest perhaps. And a couple others I'm not going to mention.

I've decided not to run a persona becuase it was too OOC. I also decided it would be selfish. Funny for me but not for the town.

So what was it going to be?

Get incarnated in one of the towns that has fairly strict rules combined with enough unstable newborns to get killed...

Certain towns would work better then others.

Rename the chracter to "Tunky Wunky" and go around be generally irriating with "big hugs" and "Cawwots done. Cawwots done". Then the real punchline. When an unstable type get slashed down for jaywalking or whatever "Ooooooooo. Again. Again." "Again Again".

But that the problem with OOC personas. They can only be interesting for so long.

Now a dalek in some of these same places. Hmmmm. It might rise up the power chain too quickly. "This. Work. U-Nit. Is. I-Dle. 47.3% Of. The. Time. You. Will. Work. Or. Be. Ex-Ter-Mi-Na-Ted. Ex-Ter-Mi-Nate. Ex-Ter-Mi-Nate. I. Have. Been. Da-Maged."

Again I don't think I could keep that up for more than a day or two without it being a drag.

{edit: forgot to mention before a dalek can speak they have to point at you first}

LOL!!! Uh Oh I sense a stereo type will soon invented in game from this statement----"All family oriented chars are homo-sexuals" J/K
But I bet soon stereo t ypes are invented!! Besides the one about people---who don't say anything which makes them a crook or thief stereo type.

Uh guess there's a second time for everything in Cantr. *Jots down the ideas for this mans man and waits patiently for the last ounce of life to drop out of one of her useless chars that has no food or sense of direction* Darn Naronian folk scared her away, no map no food.

Yeah I agree! Not much more to be said----must be really depressing for vibrant chars to get spawned in such drab places. :(

That's why I never "planned" a char, I let the place they were in and the interactions they had with others determine how the char grew, I basically let the enviornment shape the char. There was only one exception to this...Lunatic Larry woulda been the same no matter where he'd landed

Hehehe....One of my chars was a naive little newspawn when she traipsed off with the cool people to go kick Larry's Azz. None of my chars have been part of any sizeable battles since then....too many "let's all share and be friends" chars out there.
