A thought: use for ivory.

Postby Pie » Thu Mar 01, 2007 3:57 am

I was thinking one day during math class, why doesent anyone want any really exotic goods? The clear answer is, they have no use. And then i thought; what would be a good use for exotic items like ivory, or cloth. And then I got of track and thought about how I saw this discovery channel thing were caveman used ivory tusks from mamoths as tents, for wenter. AND THEN IT HIT ME!!!

an Ivory tent. It gives ivory a use, and makes the good stuff it does for people a bit more expencive, so you don't see newspawns running around with tents, and stuff.

And then I was talking to Sanchez, and I asked her to make a search, and we ended up making the BEST IDEA EVER!!

Ivory spear. a little more deadly than a bone spear, but not as deadly as a steel spear. something like 27.

Ivory knife. an attack of around 10, or around 14.

and just maby

ivory longbow. but that is just something I just made up....

Nice thinking Pie! This is a great idea.

Personally, due to the rarity of ivory, I honestly think it should be more powerful than the majority of weapons.

This way we will see a slaughtering of elephants, supply and demand, and some good economical flirtations occur.

Other than the tent idea the rest is excellent. An ivory long bow? Probably not, but worth the thought and try.

N-Aldwitch, ivory is stronger than bone, yet it is weaker than metals. I mean comeon. Could you ever see a weapon of ivory cutting through a weapon or armour of iron, bronze or steel?

You are wrong.

That is in real life.

This is Cantr.

Enough said.

Bronze is even more rare than ivory. Not one of my characters have ever seen bronze. It should trump everything. A bronze knife with higher damage than a crossbow.

What did you kill that elephant with? Must have been stronger than its mighty "ivory" tusks.
Wait. Not done.
What are ivory weapons to be crafted with? You know with ivory being so tough.

ENOUGH SAID.

I actually really like this idea, and perhaps the irovy should slot in somewhere around recurve bow power?

Are you nuts? Has any of your characters ever made a recurve bow? A knife, a bow stringer ,bowstring (and everything needed to create a bow string) and 5 days.
Far too unbalanced.

Anything from ivory should be in between bone and bronze. Anything of ivory that comes close to recurve bow damage should take no less than 12 days to make. Ivory is too brittle to make a bow from.

It would be balanced if range mattered. Irl bows rocked because they allowed you to hurt someone/something before they even got close. Same goes for spears kinda, you stick the butt of the spear in the ground and someone/thing running full speed at you will impale themselves before getting on stabbing range.

Anyway, ivory spearhead sounds cool. I don't think ivory is very flexible though. We could have ivory hilts and... maybe risors.

Yeah, it takes this time to build a recurve bow, but you ever tried to take down an elephant? No? Me neither actually :S Never seen one in Cantr ever before, but anyway, I hear you need roughly a recurve bow to do it

DELGRAD, the balance comes from the difficulty of attaining Ivory.

Meh, it shouldn't be stronger than anything else just because it's rare. That's bad reasoning. People should make those things because it is rare and then they can show off their rare ivory knife, not because "ooh, it's rare, and it's all powerful!" I think better than bone and around bronze is good enough.

Ivory is harder to carve so it's stronger than ordinary bone. That would lower the deterioration rate and perhaps make them more efficient as weapons, but not stronger than iron or bronze.

I like the idea of ivory being used as ornamentation on weapons. Similar to the diamond-encrusted sabre. Doesn't have to do anything 'extra', but would be seen as a status symbol.

Maybe more jewelry could be added that uses ivory? I know a lot of people don't pay attention to the clothing screen - I'm guilty of it myself most times. But I think enough people are concerned with the way their characters are dressed that we need more variety.
