Badges and Crowns
I think this would be good for the game. If we could make badges for people to wear. They could be made out of iron. What this would do is when you see a person wearing a badge it would look like (A Man in his Twenties, wearing a sheriffs badge says:) When you make a badge you can choose what it would say on it, such as Sherrif of ..... or Deputy Sheriff.... or General....Sgt..Ect
Also if we could make crowns out of rare materials like iron, gold and silver. then the description could read (A man in his forties who wears a Kings crown says:..... or A woman in her Forties who wears a queens crown says:"
People can make these to make identification easier to new people in town and bandits can also make them to pass them selves off as something they are not.
I don't know if this can be done right now or not I just thought it would be a way to help with dicriptions with out going over board

That is basically what I meant. It would just show that the person wearing it was of imprtance. For Example, if you need to speak to the sheriff you can find him/her by looking for the badge. You won't need someone to point them out...that can be a problem if everyone is asleep
For the crowns it would just show it in the description showing that the person is the King or Queen or such, we could even use medalions too. but mostly badges for law and armies and bandits who want to be known as law men

They'd have to be level independant. "A badge" but there could easily be several variations, steel badge, tin badge, iron badge etc. so there's some level of differentiation.
By creating "Sheriff's badge" you impose an existing RW struture on the entire game. That sort of hierarchy needs to occur naturally IC, different types of badges would facilitate that - what each badge represents would depend on the region.

Yeah, anything with an inscription and small enough to be worn could be counted as "Badge". Just name them like vehicles or as buildings.
So even a "Badge" with the inscription "Sil postal Services" would be possible, but with the dynamic naming we get the old problem of how to authenticate them? But in a city that should be no problem.

This is why we should be able to inscribe on them "sheriff" or "Guard Captin" there could be a limit to how long the inscribtion could be

That does pose a problem but let me ask you this. When you see a police officer with a badge, how do you know it is real? You don't. You can look in to it, but you don't know right off. So it is as much a problem in RL as it could be in Cantr. However in RL it is harder to make a fake badge. First you have to find a tin smith who would be willing to make one. I mean here in Manitoba, Canada you can face up to 25 years no less that 5 years in prison

I know this is digging up the dead... but i'd like to add to this suggestion that of medals... say made of silk and bronze or gold or silver, and dynamicly named, or not, either way. like a building or vehicle.

Accidentally Duped it, didn't realize it had already been suggested, too long since a bump.
My suggestions (I know, I'm lazy and don't feel like reposting them) along with a couple others, can be seen here. http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 836#242836
I don't know about the crown part of this original topic, though, I would rather it stayed seperate from the badges suggestion.

Heh, you're probably right, that thread was doing well and getting some good input, until it got put into rejects as a dupe, now, nobody can be bothered with either thread.

Badges, Medals, or Crowns
I like the idea of Badges, Medals, or Crowns (if you will). My idea of a Badge would be something on the order of the military. Say: Medal of Honor, Distingiushed Service Cross, Bronze Star, Purple Heart. Or Ribons if you prefer. You only get these types of Medals (or Ribbons) if you were in an Army for an extended period of time or fought in some major campaign. Of course this would be up to whatever General or official military commander to issue these types of awards. (Maybe?)
