Sounds good to me, but people and vehicles shouldn't be visible for very far, due to rises and bends in the road.

Maybe make people visible from 1/3 of viewable radius, and vehicles at 2/3.
And make them different colors, and appear on the locations page like at sea.
edit: give them tails like at sea too :D

Wow, if this gets implemented.. awesome.

The tails should not be visible on land though, because you can't see a distinct trail on the land from a distance, like you can with a boat.

I didn't think that was what the tail was supposed to symbolize, it's supposed to represent it's speed and direction.
Something you'd be able to tell by looking, but not in Cantr (before tails)

I suppose so. Although this would still make thievery so much harder, just because of the pursuers ability to see you past the next town, which is very unrealistic.

That town would have to be pretty close to you if it was within 1/3 of the radius of your viewing area.

Yes, but lets say you steal a car. The owner notices 2 hours later and sets off after you in an identical vehicle. At the next town you make an arbitrary choice on where to go. There is no way the pursuer should be able to follow, and yet they would be able to see you.

Well I can see the tails of a boat that is around a corner of land, even if a forest or a mountain is on that land, which would logically block my view.
Don't try to make the suggestion too complicated :P

The original idea of the GPS system was just a basic north/east/south/west vague general direction, not
"Bob has your Tandem Bike (oh its called The Fury) and he's digging for limestone up in that new town, BigTown, his best friend there is Jill and they get along really well. If you want to get to him, take this road to SmallTown, then you'll arrive at AngryTown, then finally BigTown. Watch out for Frank, he is crazy- he wanders on the road between the second last town and BigTown.'

No, the idea was
"Signal from north-east"
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

I cannot think of any two locations that are within 1/3 of a sight distance from each other.
So you're grossly overstating.
And looking down a road and seeing a car is more realistic, and more sensible.
So just where is this magic satellite in your suggestion, then? Because to my understanding, global positioning satellite devices require... satellites. And put you in an exact position on the globe. Not "it's northeast from you".

Don't be so defensive Nick, he just misstated what he meant in the first post. And Nick, I don't mean that you can see into the next location from any given place, I mean from a road very close to a location you would also be able to see all the roads leading out from that location, including the one you are on. Its not a major issue, but now do you see what I mean?
