The moon? On C-Span, they had a bunch of big wigs listenting to NASA ranting about colonizing mars. Hmmm...something about 4 seperate missions over the next 20 years, each taking teams of 4 or 5 people....each time a cute little greenhouse goes along, as well as Mars rovers or whatever they're called, and each time ummm...something else gets sent as well, other than the pod thingy that serves as house/lab/potty/kitchen/living room/cage/assylum, etc.

They were saying that they could have them all either land at he same location, making a happy little town of 20ish people, or they could spread them out somewhat over the same longitude or latitude line, but close enough to where the scientists could go play in each other's little villages.

Oh, and they'd be bringing something with them...nitrogen?, and would get whatever else they needed to make their own water, air, and return fuel from Mars.

Then the big wigs, who seemed more like gov officials than the NASA guys, started associating Bush's and JFK's space enthusiasm, and they all seemed really excited about going to Mars right this minute, until someone said lunch was ready in the ballroom. Then nobody looked like they gave a shit anymore, because....well, Mars doesn't compare to lunch.

Back on topic:
The energy is being transferred to the Moon. I read somewhere that the Moon is moving away from the Earth. I don't know anywhere near enough physics to explain how the momentum is transferred, but the Moon orbits in the same direction as the Earth rotates. Therefore it makes sense that the Moon speeds up as the Earth slows down.

So sooner or later, the Moon will catapult away from Earth and become a comet and slam into an alien planet about a couple million years later in another solar system and that alien planet comes up with some conspiracy theory that the humans on Earth catapulted their natural satellite purposedly and declare war on Earth and blows it up with a Death Star type spaceship. By this time Earth has colonized a number of planets in their solar system and they unite, send a couple of nuclear weapons over to the alien and wipe out their population and then takes over their planet and then they get into a fight as to how to divide the spoils. Eventually one dominate human culture emerges but due to physics another natural satellite of another human planets catapults away from the human planet and eventually starts the whole process all over again...................................................................................................

I expect the Moon would become just a big near-Earth object, but I doubt it would hit anything for a while. Eros has been around for quite a while without bumping into anything.

That's another good reason to space out ellipses - they don't mess up the formatting so badly that way.

Captain Malcolm Reynolds used a long string of periods, which the computer interpreted as a single word.
