let me just say that this forum, and thus Cantr site is probobly now under the watchful eyes of our dear old government. Key words used on this forum include:
Explosives
EMP
Politics
China
America
Nukes
bomb
pyrotechnics
opinion
not to mention other notable words like:
a, at, it, the, when, time, me, you, and, just, note, want.

Here I am. BITE ME. or not, in fact, never mind, dont want some wacko taking me up on the offer. Only non wacko's may apply for bite allowance.. no garentee that you will be granted said allowance, but you can try.

That would cause an ice age. The effect of terawatts of energy that moves the oceans around surface and espically subsurface cannot be replaced.
The suns contributes as well be it takes both.
Did you know that hydro power is not a "green" source of power? The weight of the amount of water displaced to higher elevations is detectably making the days longer.
What was the topic?
Homemade robotic lawn mowers. Make sure you have a kill switch that works well and remotely.

are you serious???? the days are longer the 24 hours now???? damn. thats awesome. we are actually slowing the world down... thats a bad thing or a good thing? i mean, does that explain why i am tired?
Tha actually curious about this:

Well it is one of those things you don't hear about mainly becuase the fact that is rains and snows has a larger effect.
Now the people who could answer this best is
The Special Bureau for Loading of the
Global Geophysical Fluid Center a Service provided by the
International Earth Rotation Service
No. Really. I didn't make that up.
http://www.sbl.statkart.no/
They know all about surface loads that effect the earth's rotation.
Sub-surface? the molten iron core that effects the rotation, surface tideal effects and deep ocean and lake effects.
Then there is the
International Association of Geodesy
these people figure out what time it is? No. Really.
www.iag-aig.org
Here is a good overview
http://geology.about.com/library/weekly/aa090797.htm
a more offical site they refer to
http://maia.usno.navy.mil/eop.html
another offical site .. don't foget to set your watch using leap seconds...
The Earth is constantly undergoing a deceleration caused by the braking action of the ocean tides. Through the use of ancient observations of eclipses, it is possible to determine the deceleration of the Earth to be roughly 2 milliseconds per day per century. This is an effect which causes the Earth's rotational time to slow with respect to the atomic clock time. Since it has been about 1 century since the defining epoch (i.e., the duration since 1900), the difference has accumulated to roughly 2 milliseconds per day. Other factors also affect the Earth's dynamics, some in unpredictable ways, so that it is necessary to monitor the Earth's rotation continuously.

most importantly
"NO positive leap second will be introduced at the end of June 2004."
ftp://hpiers.obspm.fr/iers/bul/bulc/bulletinc.dat
Now back to the dams...
http://dgfi2.dgfi.badw-muenchen.de/dgfi ... eite12.pdf
very little impact but since we are so obessed we know that it is there
My inital statement
not a lie
a strecth of the truth
liberals do that
but I did it on a leap second so it doesn't count as a lie
Something else about all this.
Days were 22 hours long for the dinosauars.
The earths inital rotation was 14 hours.
The moon is being speed up by the earth and is moving away from it for the precise oppsoite reason that the moon has an effect on the earth. It is all that water and liguid iron whiping around.

Don't worry we are on top of it here at Cantr. In the year 30000 when there is an extra minute in the day we will raise the time limit to 201.
I think that is on my list of things to do.
Back on topic....
Do not attempt to make a dam out of your rain gutters for electrity, your making my day longer and that is dangerous.

ummm... ocean tides can't change the net rotational momentum of the earth. friction due to dust particles in space and junk like that could though...
if hydoelectric power really is significantly increasing the earths moment of inertia, it can only be by a finite amount. evaporation and precipitation would stop the change in mass distribution from increasing after a point. the cool thing is that if the water system is allowed to return to normal, the earth will speed up again.
in addition, the burning of fossil feuls and the use of atomic energy increase the amount of em radiation coming from the earth. and everyone know that for each extra joule of energy that is radiated away, the earth loses 1.11x10^-17 kg of mass which will increase the angular velocity (assuming the radiation goes out at all angles eaqually).
edit: oh wait, on the last point, the em radiation would carry away angular momentum with it proportional to its energy content, so that wouldn't speed up the earth's rotation after all.

momentum is different than energy. it can't change to heat or be radiated or anything like that. it could theoretically be transfered to the moon and accelerate it's orbit... but i can't figure out why that would happen. anyone know which way the moon orbits? is it in the same direction as the earth's rotation or opposite?
DOOM!
