I don't think different font sizes in the same text make that text very urgly.Jos Elkink wrote:I'm thinking about this but not really sure what I'd like. Most methods would make the site look very, very ugly. Multiple font sizes in one list of text is really quite ugly, imho, and many different colors perhaps even worse. I was thinking of small bullets in front of lines of different colors, but that is too little intrusive to have an effect ... So what's the brilliant solution that let you quickly scan what is important, without making the page look like a mess?
And yes, the "to you" events should definitely stand out. I think the solution might well be to do just that and leave the events otherwise untouched.
You could even imagine just some filtering, where you can remove particular types of events from your list, not permanently, and not by reloading the page, but just a little button before each event and if you click it, all events of that type vanish, and if you click a similar button again, it appears again. All dynamic without reloading the page. Shouldn't too complicated (that is, I'd just ask Grzegorz) and it could be very useful. And better looking than other kinds of effects.
Smaller font for events

I meant that it has been implicated for a while and I think it's great!!!
Hey people what are you talking about? The estetic side? Damn it, we need a solution for big cities to work! A mess begins when many people shamble around...

I really don't like the idea of filtering. Differentiation of various activities, though colour, font or whatever is alright. I see city spam as more of a characteristic of cities then a problem (even though the characteristic is a problem to some). That's what cities are like right? There are more opportunities, saftey etc but then there is the negative influence of being crammed together with a pile of other people. If there is a load of 'noise pollution' then that is what your character has to deal with.
If you really need to quickly extract the events you need then do a search. (Eg search for "says to you", "hurts a" etc). Otherwise just put up with the intense torture that is scanning through a page of text. This isn't really a much needed feature. <insert>

What about filtering by coloring (and not hiding)?
Little button changes color of event type from white to silver or grey, and back to white.
And I think (almost?) perfect solution would be giving players possibility to choose color for given event types.
Every player would be able to color events that are important to her/him the way (s)he likes.

Yeah, I like the idea of having a filter where everything that is filtered out is grayed out rather than removed. That should be effective enough to quickly scan the events page, and you still have all information, so you can understand the chronology. E.g. if you gray out animal attacks, you can still understand someone who yells at the animals

That idea I don't like. First of all, I would not want it to be that fixed. For different characters different things are important. And I really, really hate the idea of various colors or font sizes on that page
Marol, did you see this?

I was going to suggest an Event Filter! Good job I searched first.
I think the ideal solution would be to allow to user to configure their own settings for this.
Have an area in the character page, where different event types can have different font sizes or colours assigned to them. This would kinda simulate the character's attention to different things. For example, a hunter character might be focused on animal attacks, attacks on animals and little else.
This way, if people like Jos want to keep things as they are now, they can. But others who want various colours and sizes can do so too.
(Btw, I think this is basically what Aihal was saying too...)

I was gonna post this suggestion, but realised if I didn't search first I'd be (rightly) burned as an evil hypocrite.
Anyway, one of the reasons I pretty much stopped playing Cantr until recently was the need to wade through events pages if I don't check it daily or twice daily (as my last characters are in pretty busy places).
Anyway, this is just to add my voice to the list.
I was thinking that hiding some events (maybe with a small button so you can click on them to show them) would be good - but greying them out seems much better, it allows scanning an events page without loosing too much info.
It would be great if this oculd be implemented so that you could set the greying-out filter of events per character.
Also, on top of that, maybe allowing a setting so you can set some types of events as bold?

Each player should have an options sheet similar to the found in Programming IDEs - for each type of event (Dragging Objects/People, People/You speaking to People/You/Everybody, Animals/People attacking Animals/People, Taking/Dropping objects, Storing/Removing resources from storage, You/Other people Using items on projects, Boats docking/undocking, locks being broken, doors being knocked on from the inside/outside, people arriving, leaving the location/buildings/vehicles, people sneezing, etc...), there would be the following options: Color (Hexadecimal, possibly have an option to select from a swatch), Bold, Italic and underline.
This would only be marginally more work than a more restricted system and would allow people to have the pages exactly as they want. Possibly, players could even have different rules for each character.
