At least Joss is being given the chance to make Firefly into a movie. Firefly is Joss's masterpiece and I can't wait to 2005 which is being dubbed already as the Year of the Firefly.

I never much got into Buffy or Angel but I definitely feel for you since Firefly was cancelled. But at least this will give Joss the chance to send all of is attention to the Firefly Movie. I said this on the www.fireflyfans.net forum and I will say it again, look what Joss Whedon did with 14 hours of Firefly in 6 months. Imagine what he could do with 2 or 3 hours of Firefly in double that time.

Right after their 100th episode?

AIE!

Honestly. It's my favorite...

Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock

Someone must have something against Joss.

Quality TV is being flushed down the drain. Crappy reality shows cost next to nothing to make and bring in huge audiences and endorsements. Shows like Joss Whedon are expensive to make and while bring in large audiences probably usually only break even. So TV execs want money and more money and as long as people gobble up this reality shit then people like Joss are going to be screwed.

Reality movies have jsut begun and have actually done pretty well. Hopefully the movie industry doesn't fall into this black hole too.

Reality shows are hurting the industry. Since only a producer, some camermen, some editors, etc. are needed and most of the 'cast' are volunteers all the other people in the industry are losing their jobs. It is coming to the point that the reality tv has destroyed the tv industry and is about to destroy the movie industry.

The day that reality movies take over is the day that you can say good-bye to great movie or even good movies. No movie exec will make one because it is much cheaper to make a reality movie that millions of people are watching rather than a regular movie.

I wonder if people knew that reality shows were putting other people out of business and leaving millions of people jobless if they would continue to watch these crap reality shows.

The only thing that can be done is boycott and educate people about this and hopefully fight back. Only then will we get quality tv back and those people's jobs back.

Thats what I was thinking when I first heard. The WB posted this on their site:

A statement from The WB:
For the last seven years Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been cornerstones of our network. The sum total of the work done on those shows has produced some of the proudest moments in our history. Like some of the great series that are leaving the air this year, including Frasier and Friends, the cast, crew, writers and producers of Angel deserve to be able to wrap up the series in a way befitting a classic television series and that is why we went to Joss to let him know that this would be the last year of the series on The WB. We have discussed continuing the Angel legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table. In a perfect world, all of these details would be completed before this information went to the press so that we could be definitive about the show's ongoing future. But in any case, we did not want to contemplate this being the last year of Angel without giving the show the option of crafting their own destiny for this character and for this series. David Boreanaz continues to be one of the finest, classiest and friendliest actors we have had the pleasure to work with and we hope that the relationship furthers from here. The same can be said for all the actors and producers on the show.

I was shocked when I heard the news. This season has really been one of the best. The media has been drawing a lot of attention towards Angel this season, the cast appeared on several shows including "On Air with Ryan Seacrest"... they were on that show twice. They just got threw celebrating their 100th episode and ratings have been rising ever since. Just does not make any sense to cancel the show now. At least there are still 9 episodes to enjoy.

Joss had this to say about the news:
joss says:
(Sat Feb 14 22:31:16 2004)

Some of you may have heard the hilarious news. I thought this would be a good time to weigh in. to answer some obvious questions: No, we had no idea this was coming. Yes, we will finish out the season. No, I don't think the WB is doing the right thing. Yes, I'm grateful they did it early enough for my people to find other jobs.

Yes, my heart is breaking.

When Buffy ended, I was tapped out and ready to send it off. When Firefly got the axe, I went into a state of denial so huge it may very well cause a movie. But Angel... we really were starting to feel like we were on top, hitting our stride -- and then we strode right into the Pit of Snakes 'n' Lava. I'm so into these characters, these actors, the situations we're building... you wanna know how I feel? Watch the first act of "The Body."

As far as TV movies or whatever, I'm not thinking that far ahead. I actually hope my actors and writers are all too busy. We always planned this season finale to be a great capper to the season and the show in general. (And a great platform for a new season, of course.) We'll proceed ahead as planned.

I've never made mainstream TV very well. I like surprises, and TV isn't about surprises, unless the surprise is who gets voted off of something. I've been lucky to sneak this strange, strange show over the airwaves for as long as I have. I don't FEEL lucky, but I understand that I am.

Thanks all for your support, your community, and your perfectly sane devotion. It's meant a lot. I regret nothing (except the string of grisley murders in the 80's -- what was THAT all about?) Remember the words of the poet:

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the road less traveled by and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN' SHOW. I totally shoulda took the road that had all those people on it. Damn."

See you soon.

Angelus or Babylon 5, there are two petitions floating around the General Discussions of www.fireflyfans.net forum to petition the WB to keep Angel running. Thought you should know this if you aren't aware of it yet. I plan to sign it. I don't watch Angel but I can't bare to thing of another quality tv show being dumped to be replaced by crappy reality shows.

We could always begin a national or even internation boycott of tv. We have Buffy, Firefly, Babylon 5, Farscape, now Angel, and many other fans who have lost a tv show to reality shows. If our tv sets go silent then that might send the right message to those people at the networks.

I have already called for such a boycott on www.fireflyfans.net and it has met some agreement though many think it won't make a difference or it will never be organized well enough in order to have an effect. Maybe if you hook up with your friends in Babylon 5 and Angel and I will hook up with the Firefly fans then we can begin the boycott. They may laugh at us at first but I think they will begin to feel the hurting as we become better organized and ratings begin to drop dramatically as people learn about the quality tv being destroyed because of fucking reality shows.

You want to put up a fight?

What do you mean by 'not really'? Not that I am trying to get into an argument with you. I just want to understand what you actually meant since I can think of a few meanings off the top of my head as to what you mean.

I just meant that I'm not really "ready to put up a fight"
I really don't care. I don't watch much tv, much less those shows, although I'm sure they're wonderful shows. I even like reality shows....

to quote a phrase from Angel...

your not ready to

"fight the good fight"

sorry couldnt resist :D

The reason I like Joss' shows is because of the amount of effort put into them. It is just like reading a good book :D

Y'know, UPN could always pick it up. They did that with Buffy...

I don't know how Joss' relationship with UPN was, though.

What Joss needs is an HBO deal. Carnivale is one of the best series I"ve ever seen.
